Genshin Impact Cooking Preview

Genshin Impact has a lot going for it. A large open world, fun and varied combat, with secrets and puzzles to find too, but before going off and being a hero, you need to be ready. One of the best ways to be ready, especially if you're expecting combat, is to pack your bag so full of Chicken-Mushroom Skewers and Fisherman's Bread that nothing will defeat you. Genshin Impact cooking is a pretty simple process but a good feed mid-battle could mean the difference between your party being wiped out and incredible loot.

How Genshin Impact Cooking Works

It's quite simple, and there's even a tutorial at the beginning as you make your way towards Mondstadt when you run into Lynn the adventurer. To begin cooking, you need to approach any pot above a campfire. If the fire isn't lit, then the game will recommend that you turn it on. Here you can just hit it with a fully charged bow shot from Amber, or any other fire-element characters you might already have. After interacting with the pot, the cook menu will come up. There are two tabs to choose from: The Cook and Process menus.

The Cook menu will show all of the recipes that you know. You'll be able to select each item and get information on how many you own of the cooked food, your proficiency at cooking that meal, the benefits of eating the meal, and what ingredients are required to cook it. There is also some flavor text describing the meal itself.

Genshin Impact Cooking Processing
Make ingredients into other ingredients through processing.

The second menu is the Process menu. This is where you turn raw materials into different ingredients to be used for cooking, like combining meat and salt into bacon or turning milk into cream. Some meals require these additional steps but normally the benefits are worth it. The Process menu also has information on how long it will take for an ingredient to process.

Think of it like preparing time to make sure the ingredient is just right. You don't need to hang by the fire for the processing to happen, so you can load some things up to process and walk away, picking them up the next time you're at a fire.

You'll need to be cooking, as well as processing, to gain progress in your Adventurers Handbook. At Chapter 2, you need to "Cook 5 dishes," and at Chapter 3 you need to "Process 3 ingredients."

Genshin Impact Cooking Minigame

Once you've decided what meal on the Cook menu you want to make, you can begin cooking. A bar will appear with with a cursor that slowly moves up it. There will be a yellow and orange section that are targets to make better foods.

Depending on where you stop, the results will be different, but you always want to be aiming for that orange section. If you miss the yellow and orange section entirely, you'll at least earn the "If you put your heart into it..." Achievement for cooking one "special"-tasting dish.

With each perfectly cooked meal, your proficiency will go up. After maxing out the proficiency of a meal, you no longer need to play the minigame to cook it. Instead you can auto-cook the meal and even batch cook them. No longer will you have to cook a steak one at a time but can immediately create as many as you want, assuming you have the ingredients for them of course.

I like this better than waiting for a jingle, or watching the color on the meat change.

Genshin Impact Meals to Cook

If there are too many options for you to choose from, we recommend you cook the meals below to get started in Genshin Impact. They'll give you a taste of what the Genshin Impact cooking system can do with ingredients you can easily find early in your adventure. If a Recipe boosts two different stats then it will be listed in both categories.
