An Introduction to Indoor Archaeology is the second quest in the Golden Slumber World Questchain, the main World Quest in Sumeru’s beautiful desert region. This is a brand-new World Quest added in Genshin Impact’s 3.1 update, entitled ‘King Deshret and the Three Magi’. This brought with it the expansive new desert region in the west of Sumeru, the continuation of the Archon storyline, new characters and weapons to collect, and tons more side-questing to experience.
This is a very cutscene driven and story focused quest overall, but there are two quest objectives that may prove troublesome for players; ‘Proceed deeper within Khemenu Temple’ and ‘Try to locate the rooms located deep within’.
Luckily, we have a guide on how to proceed deeper within Khemenu Temple and how to locate the rooms located deep within, to help you complete An Introduction to Indoor Archaeology and continue the Golden Slumber World Quest without a hitch!
How to proceed deeper within Khemenu Temple
This objective comes after having travelled to the oasis and experienced a cutscene involving the key characters of the quest discussing their next step in exploring the desert. Ultimately, they decide to head into Khemenu Temple in search of more research material. After heading into the temple and watching another cutscene, you will be tasked with proceeding deeper within Khemenu Temple. Sadly, this isn’t as simple as walking through the front door.
To proceed deeper within Khemenu Temple, you must light the two braziers in front of the locked door, known as Primal Torches. This is done by entering the two rooms either side of this central chamber to collect Primal Embers.
Firstly, take the door to the right. While it may look sealed like the main door, this door is accessible via the terminal. Open the door and continue down the path until you reach a room. Inside will be a glowing platform on the ground. Step into this platform to generate a Primal Ember (a glowing blue orb) within a Primal Sconce at the centre of the room. Interact with this mechanism and the Primal Ember will start travelling up the stairs. Follow the Primal Ember up the stairs where it will take a pit-stop, requiring you release it again before moving on. Eventually, the Primal Ember will reach and light the Primal Torch to the right of the locked door in the main room needed to progress the quest.
Next, take the door to the left of the central chamber and repeat this process with the Primal Ember. Note that the Primal Ember and Sconce are locked in this room until the enemy is defeated, rather than having to stand on the glowing platform to generate a Primal Sconce.
Once both Primal Torches in the main chamber have been activated by the Primal Embers of either side, you will be entered into a cutscene of the door now opening and a short conversation between the characters. After this you will be tasked with exploring the lower level of Khemenu Temple, where you will discover a hidden Teleport Waypoint.
How to locate the rooms located deep within Khemenu Temple
Shortly after having proceeded deeper within the temple by opening the locked door and exploring the lower level, you must locate the rooms located deep within. This objective involves finding two more rooms and guiding their respective Primal Ember back to the central chamber.
Returning to the newly discovered Teleport Waypoint, take the door to your right (north). Follow the hallway (watch out for the disappearing floor, although this does loop back around) until you reach a large room containing several large pillars and a structure at its centre. On the central structure will be a Sand Timer challenge, activate this to spawn Four-Leaf Sigils to help with traversal. Note that you do not need to complete the challenge to progress.
To continue the quest, interact with the Primal Sconce atop a ledge on the back wall to create a Primal Ember which you will follow through the door leading to the central chamber to light the Primal Torch on the right side. Remember to release the Ember again when it stops to open the locked door!
With the north side complete, return to the Teleport Waypoint and take the door to the left (south). Follow the hallway until you reach another large room, this one housing a grand boat at its centre. To unlock this room, use the Four-Leaf Sigils to reach the top of the boat. Collect the Forged Primal Light (a small, glowing blue inverted pyramid) next to the Dendroculus and deposit it at the glowing platform on the deck of the boat. This will generate a Primal Scone and a Primal Ember which you will follow through the floor panel that will disappear after standing on it.
Shortly after, the Ember will take a pit-stop in a room with a large fan. Wait for the fan to stop blowing before releasing the Ember once more, otherwise it will be blown away and the short puzzle will reset. Eventually, this Ember will also reach the central chamber to activate the Primal Torch on the left side of the room.
With that objective complete, take the elevator and watch a final cutscene to finish An Introduction to Indoor Archaeology World Quest, leading directly into the follow-up quest The Secret of Al-Ahmar in the Golden Slumber World Questchain.
