Genshin Impact Afratu outside his campsite in the Valley of Dahri in Sumeru, giving players the 'Afratu's Dilemma' World Quest.

Afratu’s Dilemma is an exciting new World Quest added with Genshin Impact’s 3.1 update, which brought with it the expansive new desert region in the west of Sumeru, the continuation of the Archon storyline, new characters and weapons to collect, and tons more side-questing to experience.

The Afratu’s Dilemma World Quest lets players explore the depths of a huge Ruin Golem machine, one of only three that survived a great war. Recently, this machine has become active, indiscriminately targeting any living thing that crossed its path. Afratu, a member of the Akademiya, has tasked us with investigating this machine and, in typical Genshin Impact fashion, many of the quest objectives are obscure.

Luckily, we have you covered with a guide on how to complete Afratu’s Dilemma, including how to find a way to enter the robot and how to break Suda’s Flow, as well as the rewards for doing so!

How to start the Afratu’s Dilemma World Quest

To start the Afratu’s Dilemma World Quest, travel to the Valley of Dahri to the south of the new desert region added to Sumeru. This area is easily accessible via a nearby Statue of the Seven atop a plateau to the west or via a Teleport Waypoint further north up the road upon which Afratu can be found.

The anxious Akademiya researcher can be found outside his tent near a pool of water in the Valley of Dahri, at the foot of a slope leading to the towering Ruin Golem that this quest is centred around. His name will be obscured at first, simply being ‘???’. Speak to Afratu to learn more about the situation and to begin the World Quest Afratu’s Dilemma.

How to complete the Afratu’s Dilemma World Quest

The first objective of the Afratu’s Dilemma World Quest is to ‘Find a way to enter the robot’. Your first instinct may be to foolishly run all the way up to the Ruin Guard in search of an entrance at its base. Unfortunately, this will lead to an untimely death. Furthermore, unless you took the time to read the tooltip hint, then you might not be aware that the Ruin Guard’s laser can be used to ‘destroy loose rocks’. You can identify loose rocks using Elemental Sight which paints these specific rocks in a distinct white glow.

To find a way to enter the robot, use Elemental Sight to identify loose rocks and bait the Ruin Golem into destroying them with their laser beam. The specific area you are looking for can be found around halfway up the path to the Ruin Golem, next to a Seelie. Stand next to this large rock until the Golem has charged their laser and dodge before the attack hits the rock to avoid taking damage. The loose rock should be destroyed and an entrance into the robot revealed.

Make your way through the tunnel to explore the area ahead. You’ll find a strange green orb wrapped in tree branches against the back wall, this is a Suda’s Flow seal, which there will be plenty more of throughout the Afratu’s Dilemma World Quest. Attack the seal with a basic attack to break it. While this first seal can be broken using melee characters, later seals will be out of reach and will require a bow to destroy effectively.

Genshin Impact A hidden Teleport Waypoint can be find while exploring the caves in the Afratu's Dilemma World Quest.

Upon breaking the first seal blocking your path, continue forward to explore the area where you will find more seals and a small skirmish with Hilichurls. After defeating these enemies, proceed upwards through the cave and where you will discover a hidden underground Teleport Waypoint, accessible only through the Afratu’s Dilemma World Quest.

Continue heading southwards through the cave and into the robot’s arm, defeating the enemies and breaking the Suda’s Flow seals blocking the path forward. Shortly you’ll be at the main section of the robot itself, blocked by three more Suda’s Flow. Destroy these seals to enter the robot for the final part of the quest.

Genshin Impact The Four-Leaf Sigils and Seelie that aid in your goal of investigating the cockpit of the Ruin Golem by guiding you to the second floor.

To investigate the cockpit of the robot, follow the Seelie found at the centre of the chamber to the second level using the Four-Leaf Sigils found to the left of the room. Once you reach the second floor the quest will update, requiring you to ‘Break Suda’s Flow at three locations’.

This is perhaps the trickiest part of the Afratu’s Dilemma World Quest as the search area has multiple floors and several Suda’s Flow seals that are not involved with this quest, making the correct seals easy to miss. It’s important to note that you are only granted access to the next Suda’s Flow in the sequence after having cleared the previous one. They are not all in this main room. To help you avoid running in circles, pulling your hair out to locate the Suda’s Flow like I was at first, here’s the location of all three Suda’s Flow.

Genshin Impact The location of the first Suda's Flow that you must break, hidden behind a sealed door to the north of the main chamber.

The location of the first Suda’s Flow that needs to be destroyed is the most straightforward, being directly ahead as you reach the second floor (north-most side of the chamber). Conveniently, the Seelie also stops next to this Suda’s Flow (thank you Seelie!). Destroy the single Suda’s Flow blocking the door and behind it will be a further three. These three Suda’s Flow make up the first group out of three that need to be broken to progress the quest.

Genshin Impact The location of the second Suda's Flow that you must break, hidden behind a sealed door to the south of the main chamber.

The second Suda’s Flow to be destroyed is found directly opposite the first (on the south-most side of the chamber). Upon destroying the first group, the camera will pan to a newly opened doorway. Proceed through this doorway to be greeted by two more doors blocked by Suda’s Flow. Behind the door to your left will be a bonus chest. More importantly, the second Suda’s Flow that needs to be broken is behind the door to your right. Break the seal on the door to reveal the small room containing three more Suda’s Flow seals. These are easy to overlook as they are located just out of sight on the ceiling of the room.

Genshin Impact The location of the third Suda's Flow that you must break, hidden in a circular room down a chute found in the centre of the main chamber.

The third and final group of Suda’s Flow you must destroy is located on a now-accessible lower floor. To access this floor, glide down the chute at the centre of the room, beneath the large spherical cockpit of the robot. Alongside a few Hilichurl and Slimes, you will also find the final group of Suda’s Flow spread across the walls of the room at the bottom of the chute.

After breaking all three Suda’s Flow sites, take the wind-lift back up to the main room where you will now be able to enter the cockpit of the robot. Head into the cockpit and interact with the controls on the desk to switch off autonomous attacking and deactivate the Ruin Golem.

Genshin Impact Using the Ruin Golem's laser to destroy rocks hiding buried bonus treasure.

For some bonus treasure and a bit of fun, you can also interact with the control panel before reporting back to Afratu to take control of the Golem’s laser yourself. You will find several large rocks attracting your attention with a yellow glow. Shoot these rocks and you will find treasure chests where they once were when you return to the surface. You’ll also receive ‘The Breakthrough’ and ‘What Does This Button Do?’ Achievement, granting you 5 Primogem each.

Regardless, having switched off autonomous attacking and deactivated the Ruin Golem, it’s time to return to Afratu to inform him of your success. The quickest way to do this is to simply fast-travel back to the Teleport Waypoint or Statue of the Seven nearby Afratu’s camp. And with that, the Afratu’s Dilemma World Quest is now complete.

Afratu’s Dilemma World Quest rewards
