The Exile: Sprouting and A Gifted Rose are unique new World Quests added with Genshin Impact’s 3.1 update, which brought with it the expansive new desert region in the west of Sumeru, the continuation of the Archon storyline, new characters and weapons to collect, and tons more side-questing to experience.
What makes these World Quests unique is their obscurity and that they are among the few time-gated quests in Genshin Impact. The Exile quest series (beginning with The Exile: Sprouting) and A Gifted Rose are a series of world quests, several of which are hidden, that take place in Aaru Village. Players will need to use their intuition as well as have patience as they complete this quest series over the period of six days. Importantly, these are real-life days, not in-game days meaning players cannot use the Pass Time function to progress the quest sooner.
Luckily, we have you covered with a guide on how to start The Exile: Sprouting, how to complete A Gifted Rose, as well as the generous rewards for doing so!
How to Start The Exile: Sprouting World Quest
To begin The Exile World Quest series, players need to acquire The Exile: Sprouting World Quest from Sabbah, an NPC in Aaru Village, Sumeru. Sabbah is located to the left of the main road heading from the Statue of the Seven, near the entrance to Aaru Village.
Walking up to Sabbah will automatically trigger a cutscene involving a boy singing a rhyme local to Sumeru about roses. After this, players can talk to Sabbah and she will explain that it is her wish to grow Sumeru Roses, despite the desert being largely averse to agriculture due to their infertile sands.
Nevertheless, Sabbah has three Sumeru Rose seeds in plant pots next to her and she asks that the Traveler help them grow in the hostile desert climate through the use of Dendro, the newly usable element added to Genshin Impact with the 3.0 update. This marks Day 1 of The Exile World Quest-chain.
How to Complete The Exile: Sprouting and Blooming World Quests
The Exile: Sprouting - Day 1
As per Sabbah’s request, use Dendro on the Sumeru Rose seeds to help them grow. Every player will have access to the Dendro Traveler so this quest is open to all players. However, you can also use Collei or Tighnari to apply Dendro to fertilise the seeds if you have access to them.
After using the power of Dendro to fertilise the seeds, Sabbah will express her gratitude in helping her achieve her goal. Once this conversation concludes, The Exile: Sprouting World Quest will be complete. However, if you speak to Sabbah again, she will hint that there is more to The Exile quest than meets the eye. Return to Sabbah the following day to continue the storyline.
The Exile: Blooming - Day 2
The following day (remember that this is real-time, not in-game time) return to Sabbah in Aaru Village. If you did not speak to her following the conclusion to The Exile: Sprouting then there will be no quest marker above her head until you do so.
Speak to Sabbah again and she will grant you The Exile: Blooming World Quest, tasking you once again with fertilising the Sumeru Rose plants using Dendro. After fertilising the plants for a second time, they will grow into fully blooming Sumeru Roses and Sabbah will again express her gratitude for your help. Sabbah will pick one Sumeru Rose to give to you, which will come in handy shortly.
Completing The Exile: Blooming marks the end of The Exile World Quest-chain. However, there is a secret sequel quest. Return to Subbah and select the dialogue option ‘This is a Sumeru Rose that I picked’. Select and gift Subbah a Sumeru Rose. Doing so will unlock a hidden quest, A Gifted Rose: Prickly as Thorns.
How to Start A Gifted Rose World Quest
This sequel quest is hidden and completely inaccessible unless you have not only completed The Exile: Sprouting and Blooming World Quests, but also returned to Sabbah to give her a Sumeru Rose. Do note, however, that both The Exile: Blooming and A Gifted Rose: Prickly as Thorns can be completed on the same day, not requiring you wait until the daily reset.
To start A Gifted Rose: Prickly as Thorns World Quest, travel to the mountains to the north of Aaru Village and find Affan at the location marked on the map above. The quickest way to reach these mountains is to travel to the Statue of the Seven at Aaru Village and use the Four-Leaf Sigils to dash up the mountain with ease.
Speak to Affan outside of his house to receive the A Gifted Rose: Prickly as Thorns World Quest.
How to Complete A Gifted Rose World Quest
A Gifted Rose: Prickly as Thorns - Day 2
Speaking with Affan will reveal that he grows flowers but that his flower nursery is in need of clearing up. Affan will send you to his nursery to the west of Aaru Village, which has been corrupted by a Withering Zone.
Clean Affan’s nursery up by clearing the Withering Zone. This is done by collecting the Dendrograna to empower your Charged melee attacks and Aimed Shots with the ability to destroy Withering Branches. Clear the three Withering Branches and defeat the enemies to be able to interact with and destroy the Tumor of Withering.
Return to Affan at his home in the mountains outside Aaru Village to complete the A Gifted Rose: Prickly as Thorns World Quest. Once again, however, there is a follow-up quest available on the following day.
A Gifted Rose: Long Day Ahead - Day 3
After the next daily reset, return to Affan outside his home. Talk to him and you will receive the very short quest A Gifted Rose: Long Day Ahead. To complete this quest, you must water the three stone flowers in the garden outside his house using Hydro-infused attacks or abilities. Speak with Affan after watering the stone flowers to complete the Long Day Ahead quest step and receive your rewards.
A Gifted Rose: Can Stones Bloom - Day 4
Return to Affan the following day to check in on the flowers, granting you with the quest A Gifted Rose: Can Stones Bloom. The stone flowers have still not bloomed and so Affan requests that you water the flowers again, in much the same way as the previous quest, Long Day Ahead. This quest is also incredibly short, ending once you’ve watered the flowers for a second time and spoken to Affan to conclude the Can Stones Bloom quest step.
After completing Can Stones Bloom, make sure to speak to Affan once more as he will point you towards Sabbah, the character who first gave us The Exile: Sprouting quest. Return to Aaru Village and speak to Sabbah, who can be found in her normal spot near the entrance to the village. Interact with Sabbah and select the dialogue option ‘About Affan…’ in which the Traveler will inform Sabbah of Affan’s difficulties in growing the stone flowers in his garden.
A Gifted Rose: Ballad of Days Gone By - Day 5
The following day, return to Affan’s house in the mountains north of Aaru Village where you will now find both Sabbah and Affan conversing. Interact with them to get the quest A Gifted Rose: Ballad of Days Gone By.
The first thing you’ll have to do is figure out how to ‘Awaken’ the seeds. To ‘Awaken’ the seeds you will first have to break the stone flower. As these plants are made of stone, they are best destroyed using a claymore-wielding character. Once you have broken each stone flower, once again apply Dendro to the glowing seeds to fertilise them.
Shortly after, these seeds will blossom into shoots, marking the end of A Gifted Rose: Ballad of Days Gone By.
A Gifted Rose: Some People Never Fade Away - Day 6
Return to Affan’s house the following day and interact with Affan and Sabbah once more to begin the next quest step, A Gifted Rose: Some People Never Fade Away. In this quest, you will have to use the power of Dendro to ‘awaken’ the Golden Roses. Apply Dendro to the sprouts and they will blossom into beautiful Golden Roses. This is the end of the A Gifted Rose World Quest-chain. However, there is a secret objective you can complete if you’ve been paying close attention.
Secret Objective - Day 6 & 7
Affan had mentioned Uncle Shafaqat and potential other Golden Roses throughout the quests you do for him. You can, in fact, find the location of these sites and collect the Golden Rose seeds.
After completing A Gifted Rose: Some People Never Fade Away, travel to the three locations marked on the map above. One Golden Rose seed is located to the south of The Dune of Elusion, near the cliffs, surrounded by shrubs and cacti. The second can be found directly south of The Garden of Endless Pillars Domain, once again surrounded by shrubbery near a short, rocky ledge. The final Golden Rose seeds is located outside the entrance of The Dune of Carouses between cacti and shrubs. At each of these sites you will find a stone flower, much like at the start of the A Gifted Rose quest-chain. Break these flowers using a claymore-wielding character and investigate the glowing icon left behind to collect Golden Rose Seeds.
Once you have collected Golden Rose Seeds from each of the three sites, travel to Affan’s nursery as we did in A Gifted Rose: Prickly as Thorns on the second day. While not marked on the map, Affan's nursery can be found to the northwest of Aaru Village on a large, rocky plateau, as seen on the map above.
Plant the Golden Rose Seeds in the three glowing spots on the ground and use the power of Dendro to fertilise them.
Return to Affan’s nursery the following day to continue the secret quest. Fertilise the plants once more with Dendro and they will grow into Golden Roses. Now for the final step in this secret World Quest!
Travel to Affan’s house in the mountains north of Aaru Village and speak with him for a final time. Select the dialogue option ‘The Golden Roses have sprouted into seedlings, yes’. Continue the conversation and Affan will be greatly appreciative of your efforts in growing more precious Golden Roses. And with that, The Exile and A Gifted Rose World Quests, along with the hidden finale, are complete!
