This Icarus Icestorm: Expedition Prospect Mission Walkthrough & Guide will tell you how to survive your first encounter with the Arctic and open up a new biome in this survival game.

What You Need For the Icarus Icestorm: Expedition Prospect Mission

The Icarus Icestorm: Expedition Prospect mission is probably the most challenging early-game mission. It's a good idea to be at least Level 15 and have the following unlocked:

  • Stone Pickaxe
  • Stone Axe
  • Campfire
  • Bedroll
  • Stone Knife
  • Wood Bow
  • Stone Arrows
  • Bone Arrows
  • Wood Spear
  • Bone Spear
  • All Wood building pieces
  • All Cloth armor pieces
  • Bandages
  • Wood Repair Hammer
  • Crafting Bench
  • Waterskin

Additionally, it is strongly recommended (but not required) to have the following:

  • Rain Reservoir
  • Oxidizer
  • Skinning Bench
  • Textiles Bench
  • All Fur armor pieces

How to Unlock the Icarus Icestorm: Expedition Prospect Mission

You can unlock the Icarus Icestorm: Expedition Prospect mission by completing the Icarus Livewire Terrain Scan Prospect mission.

Icarus 'Icestorm: Expedition' Prospect Mission Walkthrough & Guide

Despite being tagged as "Normal" difficulty, the Icarus Icestorm: Expedition Prospect mission can be extraordinarily challenging -- especially for new players.

Setting Up

Take note that this mission starts very late in the day -- you only have a few in-game hours before it gets dark, so don't dally! Once you land, start heading south, gathering materials along the way. Craft the usual set of basic equipment:

  • Stone Pickaxe
  • Stone Axe
  • Stone Knife
  • Wood Spear
  • Wood Bow
  • 30 Stone Arrows

Additionally, gather up at least 600-700 Fiber and craft a full set of Cloth Armor.

Take note of the "Last Chance for Easy Water Access" marked on the map above -- a small stream and a waterfall is the last place you'll be able to get Water without having to do some work. Make sure to fill up.

Icarus 'Icestorm: Expedition' Prospect Mission Walkthrough & Guide - Cabin
A simple cabin just outside of the Arctic zone will serve as your base of operations. The Rain Reservoir is helpful for keeping your water supply topped up, whether you rely on rain or melt ice from the Arctic zone inside the Reservoir.

Make sure to get enough Fur and Leather to build a Bedrolll; don't forget to set your spawn point here! Then, head to the "Ideal Base Location" on the map and build a small, sturdy cabin. Build a Campfire, Bedroll, and Crafting Bench inside. If you can, also build a Skinning Bench and Textiles Bench and build a Rain Reservoir outside.

If you have a Rain Reservoir, you can easily melt ice from the nearby Arctic zone by placing it in the Rain Reservoir. If not, you'll have to melt it in the Campfire. Either way, you should craft at least two Waterskins to supply you with Water in the Arctic biome.

Retrieve Device Component 1

Once your base is set up, head west to retrieve Device Component 1. Avoid or kill dangerous animals where possible; then, bring the device back home and store it in your Crafting Bench (or any other storage).

Icarus 'Icestorm: Expedition' Prospect Mission Walkthrough & Guide - Polar Bear
Do not attempt to fight Polar Bears. You will not win. They are much tougher than regular Bears and will smash through Wood buildings and shrug off Arrows like it's nothing.

Retrieve Device Component 2 & 3

Device Component 2 and Device Component 3 are in the Arctic biome. This part of the trek is brutal, especially when there is a storm on. I recommend you bring the following with you:

  • 3 Wood Repair Hammer
  • 6 Wood Floors
  • 12 Wood Walls
  • 2 Wood Doors
  • 6 Wood Wall Angled
  • 6 Wood Roof/Ramp
  • 2 Campfires
  • 2 Bedrolls
  • 50 Wood
  • 100 Sticks
  • 100 Fiber
  • 50 Stone
  • 50 Oxite
  • 2 Full Waterskins
  • 20 Cooked Meat
  • 100 Stone Arrows (or Bone Arrows, if possible)
  • A full set of Cloth Armor (or Fur Armor, if possible)

Head directly towards Device Component 3. Do not try to fight Polar Bears -- it is extremely difficult to kill them and they are best avoided. Then, head back and grab Device Component 2.

If a storm happens, use the building pieces to quickly build a shack and put a Campfire inside (and ideally, far away from any Polar Bears!) Use the Wood Repair Hammer to repair building pieces as they break and use spare pieces to replace anything that completely breaks. Once the storm is over, repair the building, collect the pieces, and continue on your way.

Icarus 'Icestorm: Expedition' Prospect Mission Walkthrough & Guide - Assemble the device
You can complete the "Assemble the device" objective by having all three pieces in your inventory and using a special Crafting recipe.

Assemble the Device

Once you have all three pieces, you can assemble the device by crafting as seen above.

Building a Cabin to Protect the Device

With the device built, acquire some materials to build a small 2x2 cabin -- you're going to build it right at the very edge of the Arctic zone where you should be safe from Polar Bears.

Prepare the following for your cabin:

  • 4 Wood Floors
  • 8 Wood Walls
  • 6 Wood Wall Angled
  • 6 Wood Roof/Ramp
  • 1 Wood Door
  • 1 Campfire
  • 50 Wood
Icarus 'Icestorm: Expedition' Prospect Mission Walkthrough & Guide - Scanning
It takes several minutes for the Disruptor to complete its process and the cabin you build will quickly fall apart if you're not proactive about repairing it.

Deploy and Active the Disruptor

Build the cabin and get it set up. Place the Disruptor inside and turn it on when a storm begins; it will take several minutes to complete its process. Repair or replace building pieces as they break.

When the scan is completed, you're done -- return to the Dropship to complete the mission.
