Icarus Death Ray: Scan Prospect Mission Walkthrough & Guide

The Icarus Death Ray: Scan Prospect mission is a leisurely romp through the desert and a fine opportunity to practice your archery skills, but don't let your guard down! While the actual objectives aren't that challenging, the wildlife can take you down very quickly if you're not careful. Fortunately, this mission has a lot of open spaces, making it a fine opportunity for practicing your archery skills (and gaining a few levels, too).

Setting Up

Start by crafting the usual suspects:

• Stone Pickaxe
• Stone Axe
• Wood Bow
• 5 Stone Arrows
• Wood Spear
• Stone Knife

This is very important: it might sound counterintuitive, but do not craft a lot of Stone Arrows. The reason comes down to Fiber -- it's much rarer in the desert, whereas animals are abundant. That makes Bone Arrows the superior choice for the Desert biome.

Once you have a few Bone Arrows, you're also going to want to make the following:

• 1 Wood Floor
• 3 Wood Wall Angled
• 5 Wood Wall
• 2 Wood Roof/Ramp
• 2 Wood Door
• 1 Campfire
• 1 Bedroll

Sandstorms may not seem threatening at first, but you can still take some damage if you're not in shelter. You'll always want to keep the above list of equipment on hand to quickly build a shelter while traveling.

Collect Radar from Supply Pod

After you've gathered all of your equipment, head south and grab up the Radar. Remember -- it gets attached to your back slot (G on the Hotbar) and it can be a bit buggy if you try to pick up animals; try to avoid doing that without dropping the Radar first.

Scan Location 1

Location 1 is off to the West. Fortunately, you have a highway of sorts to follow -- the rivers throughout this map will help keep you on track (and hydrated. In this case, you'll have to follow along the cliff's edge until you reach a ramp up to the high ground. This also serves as a fine opportunity to pick up Fiber along the riverside.

Move up to the objective, place the Radar down, get the scan started, and step way back. Soon enough, an Elephant will appear and boop the Radar. As long as you're out of range, it will be disinterested and walk away after that, allowing you to restart the Radar and complete this part. Pick up the Radar, then head back East towards the Dropship.

Set Up a Base

Once you've completed Location 1, you're going to want to follow the river back east towards the Dropship. Then, start heading north along the river as you approach Location 2.

Along the way, collect materials that will allow you to build a simple base near Location 2 -- if you die, it will suck to have to walk all the way back from the spawn point.

Once your base is set up, gather resources in the surrounding area so you can craft the following building pieces in preparation for Location 3:

• 8 Wood Walls
• 4 Wood Wall Angled
• 4 Wood Roofs
• 4 Wood Floors
• 1 Wood Door
• 1 Campfire
• 1 Bedroll
• 1 Wooden Repair Hammer

These items will be used to build a temporary fort prior to scanning Location 2 and Location 3.

Scan Location 2

Location 2 is far to the north and someone on the high ground. Set up the fort shown above, place and activate the Radar, and then hang back; several Hyenas will spawn. Pick them off, finish the scan, and head West to Location 3.

Scan Location 3

Follow the same plan for Location 3 -- set up the fort, start the scan, and pick off the enemies that come in. This time, it will be some cougars. Kill them, complete the scan, and then follow the river back to the Dropship to extract and complete the mission.
