Arctic Biome

Icarus is a game all about learning to survive on an alien planet, and at times that can be tough. When you hit your first Icarus arctic mission, you will notice a serious difficulty spike. The arctic areas are low on resources and have polar bears wandering around that are just waiting to make you into a snack. Here's how to survive in the Icarus Arctic Biome.

Survival Challenges in the Arctic Biome

There are a variety of problems that you will run into in Icarus's arctic biome. This is by far the hardest area to survive in, and during your first arctic mission, you will notice a heavy difficulty spike. Here is what you need to know before going into the arctic biome:

  • Trees and fiber are few and far between.
  • There is a cold meter; you can freeze to death, especially during the night.
  • Polar bears will happily snack on you and are far more challenging than bears.
  • Wolves roam around in packs.
  • Water is a rare resource, and lakes are frozen over.

Polar bear and wolf attacks can happen suddenly, especially if you are wandering around in the dark. You should always be prepared for the possibility that an enemy will blindside you. Wolfs generally roam in packs but are easier to kill, and polar bears are able to take you down with just a few bites.

You will also find that your food consumption will increase, and unlike some other easier missions, going without a shelter is a no-go. Below are some tips on how to survive.

What to take into the Arctic Biome

Here is what you should take into the arctic biome to up your chances of survival:

  • Beds
  • Heat Source
  • Fur Armor
  • Knife
  • Bow
  • Arrows
  • Water Skin
  • Meat
  • Housing Parts

If you can go into the arctic biome prepared to quickly set up a base, then you will have a far greater chance of surviving.

How to Survive the Icarus Arctic Biome

Surviving the Icarus arctic biome isn't impossible and is all about getting in the groove of things. For starters, you will want to invest in fur armor to keep you warm and a waterskin bag or two to keep you hydrated. This will help you offset the cold for a bit longer and control your thirst. Your first objective is to find a suitable location and set up a base; try to do this before night as conditions will kill you faster. The base will need to be warmed with a heat source, and you should always sleep through the night.

  • Quick Tip: If you can't find a cave, then you can carve one out in a large rock to shelter yourself from a storm. To keep wolves out, be sure to put up a wall.

A campfire isn't enough to keep you alive, especially when a blizzard kicks in. If you are close to night, then don't try rushing a base; find a cave to stay in ASAP. Your respawn point should also be considered carefully; if you respawn in a badly equipped base, then your going to be in a bad position and may even need to restart the mission. The Arctic biome is going to be even tougher if you are playing on your own and don't have anyone to pick you up.
