Icarus Dry Run: Expedition Prospect Mission Walkthrough & Guide

The Icarus Dry Run: Expedition Prospect mission is one of the most challenging things to do in the early game of Icarus. Make sure you're properly prepared!

Setting Up

This mission is going to take you over a large section of the map and ultimately open up a new zone -- you're going to want to get moving right away.

Locate and Retrieve Drilling Equipment

Your first objective is to get a Drill in a crate to the north. Start moving towards it. Craft a Wood Spear first so you can defend yourself from wolves; then, craft the following items as you move:

  • Stone Pickaxe
  • Stone Axe
  • Wood Bow
  • At least 30 Stone Arrows
  • A torch
  • Stone Knife

Make your way to the box, collecting Berries and Oxite as you move. Open the box, retrieve the equipment, and start heading to the second box.

Locate and Retrieve Fueling Equipment

The second box is a little further away; it contains wiring equipment and a Solar Panel. Make your way to this box, grab the equipment, but don't go to the cave just yet.

Icarus Dry Run Expedition Prospect Mission Walkthrough & Guide - Lake Base
The northern lake is a good location for your first base; if you die, respawning here will save you a lot of walking.

Setting Up a Small Base

You're pretty far away from the Dropship and you're about to enter a very dangerous area -- it's a good idea to set up a small base.

Build a base near the western shore of the nearby lake. A small cabin with a Campfire and Bedroll should do. It will save you a lot of time if you die!

Locate the Cave Entrance

Once you've set your spawn point at the lake cabin, start moving towards the cave entrance. It's deep in a valley -- don't fall off the cliffs! Once you get there, you should build a second base.

Setting Up a Second Base

You'll want to set up a second base right outside of the cave. Don't take your time on this one -- this valley has a ton of large, dangerous animals that roam around the general area and the cave entrance including:

  • Wolves
  • Cougars
  • Bears
  • Boars
  • Hyenas
  • Bison
  • Elephants (yes, Elephants)

Place a Bedroll and a Campfire inside. Once you're done building, chop down some trees and clear some brush so you can see the surrounding area better -- you don't want to get jumped by a Bear. Should you get attacked, fall back to your cabin and try to fight from indoors.

Drill Through the Rockfall

You're going to have to drill through some rock, but setting up the Drill isn't very intuitive. Here's what you have to do:

Icarus Dry Run: Expedition Prospect Mission Walkthrough & Guide - Solar Panel
The green light means it's working.

How to Set up the Drill

  1. Place the Solar Panel outside of the cave; make sure the light is green (which indicates that it's getting power).
  2. Go inside the cave and place the drill on the rock face.
  3. Select the wiring kit and connect a wire to the drill, then move as far away as you can.
  4. Keep connecting wires together until you can connect them to the Solar Panel.

If you've done everything right, the drill should activate. Don't rush back in, though -- you're going to have to fight Cave Worms.

Icarus Dry Run: Expedition Prospect Mission Walkthrough & Guide - Cave Worm
Cave Worms are nasty and have an AoE splash damage attack. Stay far away and dip behind cover if they shoot at you.

Cave Worms have a vicious ranged attack that can poison you and drain your health very quickly. Pop out from behind cover and shoot them with your bow. Once they're all dead, move further into the cave.

Drill Through the Rockfall (Again)

You have a second chunk of rock to drill through now. Pick up the drill, place it on the new rock, and then connect the wire from the drill's new position to the hanging wire at the drill's old position. Once again, you'll have to kill some Cave Worms.

Icarus Dry Run Expedition Prospect Mission Walkthrough & Guide - Desert
Welcome to the desert.

Exit the Cave & Return to the Dropship

After you've breached the second set of rocks, head deeper into the cave and exit at the desert for the first time ever -- you've just unlocked a new area.

Once the objective completes, go back the way you came and make your way to the Dropship. Lift off from the planet and you're done!
