In the Paldea Region there is plenty to look forward to exploring. From the tops of mountains to the bottom of caves you can search every nook and cranny for Pokemon, items, and more. One thing that you might be surprised to come across are glowing Black Stakes holding back the Legendary Pokemon of this region. In this Pokemon Wo-Chien Black Stake Guide we'll show you the locations of all Black Stakes to unlock Wo-Chien.
What are the Black Stakes in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet?
There are four sets of different colored Black Stakes, each corresponding to a different sealed Shrine hidden in Paldea. The Shrine that is located in the South-East of the map is the Grasswither Shrine and it contains the legendary Pokemon Wo-Chien.
After removing the eight purple Black Stakes you'll be able to battle Wo-Chien. This is a level 60 encounter so be sure you're prepared but don't worry as whether you knock out Wo-Chien or Wo-Chien defeats your team you can return to rebattle it after an hour.

Wo-Chien Legendary Pokemon Battle
Name: Wo-Chien
Level: 60
Type: Dark/Grass
Ability: Tablets of Ruin - The power of the Pokemon's ruinous wooden tablets lowers the Attack stats of all Pokemon except itself
Moves: Giga Drain, Foul Play, Ruination, Power Whip
Giga Drain and Power Whip are both extremely powerful grass moves. Trying to get this Pokemon in a state of low health to catch more reliably makes Giga Drain frustrating as it will continue to restore its own health. With reduced attack due to it's ability you can feel a bit bolder about using powerful moves to bring it down to low health.
Regardless of how strong your Pokemon is or what typing advantage you might have against this Dark/Grass creature its Ruination attack will always split your remaining health in half.
