In the Paldea Region, there is plenty to look forward to exploring. From the tops of mountains to the bottom of caves you can search every nook and cranny for Pokemon, items, and more. One thing that you might be surprised to come across is glowing Black Stakes holding back the Legendary Pokemon of this region. In this Pokemon Chien-Pao Black Stake Guide we'll show you the locations of all Black Stakes to unlock Chien-Pao.

What are the Black Stakes in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet?

There are four sets of different colored Black Stakes, each corresponding to a different sealed Shrine hidden in Paldea. The Shrine that is located in the South-West of the map is the Icerend Shrine and it contains the legendary Pokemon Chien-Pao.

After removing the eight yellow Black Stakes you'll be able to battle Chien-Pao. This is a level 60 encounter so be sure you're prepared but don't worry as whether you knock out Chien-Pao or Chien-Pao defeats your team you can return to rebattle it after an hour.

Chien-Pao Legendary Pokemon Battle

Name: Chien-Pao
Level: 60
Type: Dark/Ice
Ability: Sword of Ruin - The power of the Pokemon's ruinous sword lowers the Defense stats of all Pokemon except itself.
Moves: Ruination, Sacred Sword, Sucker Punch, Icicle Crash

If you have a Skeledirge then Ruination and Icicle Crash are the only ways that this thing is going to do damage to you. There's an added benefit in Chien-Pao knowing Sucker Punch, if you're just throwing Ultra Balls to try to catch it then Sucker Punch will always fail.

Regardless of how strong your Pokemon is or what typing advantage you might have against this creature its Ruination attack will always split your remaining health in half.
