Your first few days in Survival: Fountain of Youth will probably be spent living in the Grotto Cave, struggling to find Food and Water. Eventually, you'll explore the Map and find a massive island to explore. If you want to move into a better house, this guide will tell you everything you need to know about Building!

How Building Works in Survival: Fountain of Youth

Survival: Fountain of Youth Build largely requires two tools: a Hammer and multiple Builder's Toolkits. Durability on the Hammer is consumed when you Build something, and the Builder's Toolkits are consumed when you Build something. Builder's Toolkits will require you to collect Common Logs.

Here's what you have to do:

  1. Navigate to the "House" section in the Crafting menu or middle-click while the Hammer is equipped.
  2. Select the House piece you want to place.
  3. Place the House piece in a valid location.
    • Note: You'll need to place at least one Foundation first -- you can't place Building pieces anywhere unless they're attached to a Foundation!
  4. Interact with the House piece and complete the Building process.

You can place multiple House pieces before actually Building them. This is a good way to plan out your structure in advance, saving you the trouble (and time) of assembling a Building and changing your mind.

Additionally, it should be noted that Survival: Fountain of Youth Building uses a structural integrity system as shown in this image:

This overlay will pop up when you hold a Hammer in your hand. Each subsequent unsupported piece will have its own number reduced by 1. If the number on a House piece is 1, you won't be able to attach any unsupported pieces to it.

The support system is a bit wonky, so make sure to plan appropriately ahead of time. You can avoid worrying about structural integrity problems by ensuring that your Building has supports underneath as much of it as possible.

Why You Should Build a House in Survival: Fountain of Youth

You should Build a House in Survival: Fountain of Youth to move yourself to a better location that allows for easier resource collection and exploration. While the Grotto Cave is certainly convenient, you'll have to deal with Pests and it won't look very good.

A proper House will give you several advantages. You can build Foundation-Pierce to directly connect a Dock to your House. You can organize or arrange it in whatever way is convenient. Best of all, you can pick the perfect location that will make your time in the Caribbean a lot easier.

Best Place to Build in Survival: Fountain of Youth

The best place to Build in Survival: Fountain of Youth is the bay toward the center of the map.

Once you've mapped the area, you'll see that there is a nice variety of Food, Crafting resources, and Animals in the area. You aren't too far away from some of the other things you might need, either.

Finally, and most importantly, this location also gives you easy access to the ocean. This lets you build a convenient Dock for your Boats so you can travel around the Island or to other Regions on the Map.
