Happy Yule, fellow Assassins! In celebration of this yearly feast in the dark and dead of winter, the team over at Ubisoft has added some festive fun to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla this year. Still, quests are quests, even when 'tis the season, and we’re here to help you solve The Case of the Missing Ale.
Once you have the update downloaded to the game, a notification will pop up on your screen announcing Yule Season, and you’ll know it’s time to head back to Ravensthorpe and start the celebrations! Err, almost. When you go back, you find out there’s still a few things left that need doing, and of course it’s up to you to do them.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla - The Case of the Missing Ale
To start The Case of the Missing Ale side quest, select it from the Quests menu under the Yule Festival heading and head on over to the brewery. It is generally recommended that you have the brewery built by this point. Once you’re there, talk to the reveler Alwin, who lays out the situation for you: The brewery has been ransacked! In the absence of brewmaster Tekla, you now need to head out and find her apprentice, Ake.
Head over to Grantebridgescire, to the location marked on the map. Talk to Ake and you’ll find out he’s A. completely sloshed, and B. not responsible for ransacking the brewery. Sort of. He explains that a group of bandits, who he let in and gave alcohol, raided the place and stole Tekla’s special brew. After a quick round of fisticuffs with Ake to prove that you’re the one who should be in charge, you’ll now need to head over to Utbech to plunder from the bandits and get back what is rightfully yours (for a change).
The barrel of ale is located in one of the huts next to the water; see the above photo for better details. Of course, you can also just raid all of the huts for fun if you wish, and if you haven’t already investigated this area, there are a number of chests from the main storyline located here as well for you to pick up.
Got the ale? Excellent! Methinks Eivor has indulged some, as the map marker now expects you to go to Sciropescire. Do NOT do this! Typical Ubisoft glitch. Instead you’ll need to escape to the southern part of the landmass you’re currently on. See the photo above for a more exact location. Once there, you need to meet up with Ake again, however, you must be anonymous and have no enemies following you. If there’s enemies, you are not allowed to finish the quest. Easy solution is to put the barrel down next to Ake and take a quick dive in the water to throw anyone off your tracks, particularly the local zealot Eorforwine.
Talk to Ake and you’re done! Completing this quest nets you 140 Yule tokens to spend, 800 points of experience, and unlocks Ake as an opponent in the Yule Brawl back at Ravensthorpe. What could be more festive than that?
