This guide will tell you how to get the Grappling Hook in Enshrouded, how to upgrade it to an Improved Grappling Hook, and how you can use it to get around the world (and your base).

The world of Enshrouded is filled with some pretty impressive mountains and massive towers. While the Glider will help you travel long distances and safely descend from great heights, you'll need the Grappling Hook to climb up to higher levels or swing across gaps. Read on to learn everything you need to know about the Grappling Hook!

How to Get a Grappling Hook in Enshrouded

You can get a Grappling Hook by collecting the following items and crafting it at your Workbench:

You can craft String in your inventory simply by collecting Plant Fiber. Metal Scraps aren't too difficult to get, either; you can reliably get them by exploring Abandoned Towns filled with Scavengers.

Shroud Spores are a little more difficult to get, but not by much; simply head into the Shroud and kill creatures there. Many creatures -- especially those that are glowing blue -- have a chance to drop Shroud Spores.

Once you have all of the necessary items, you simply need to take them to the Workbench at your base and craft a Grappling Hook. Equip it to your character on the "Character" menu and you'll be able to use it when you're in the correct place.

How to Use the Grappling Hook

Unlike some other games, you can only use the Grappling Hook on certain specific attachment points called " Grappling Hook Anchors." You will need at least 40 Stamina to use the Grappling Hook.

There are two types of Grappling Hook Anchors that you'll encounter in the world:

  • Grappling Hook Pull Anchor - This type of Grappling Hook Anchor will pull you toward it. You'll typically find it on the top of ledges.
  • Grappling Hook Swing Anchor - This type of Grappling Hook Anchor will allow you to swing across a gap. It's most commonly found attached to a ceiling or a crossbeam above a gap.

Grappling Hook Anchors are a ubiquitous feature in Ancient Spires, the massive towers that are dotted across the map for easy Fast Travel. You won't be able to unlock most Ancient Spires until you have a Grappling Hook, so make sure you craft one before you explore them!

Making Copper Bars opens up the possibility of adding Grappling Hook Anchors to your base.

How To Add Grappling Hook Attachments to Your Base

You can add Grappling Hook Attachments to your base once you've rescued the Blacksmith NPC and built a Charcoal Kiln, a Forge, and a Smelter. You'll also need to rescue the Carpenter so you can build the Kiln (which is a necessary prerequisite for the Smelter).

Next, you'll need to get your hands on some Copper Ore in Revelwood and some more Metal Scraps. Turn the Metal Scraps into Metal Sheets at the Forge and turn the Copper Ore into Copper Bars at the Smelter.

Finally, speak with the Blacksmith and you'll be able to make either a Grappling Hook Pull Anchor or a Grappling Hook Swing Anchor for the following cost:

  • 3 Metal Sheets
  • 1 Copper Bar

From there, it's simply a matter of placing the Grappling Hook Anchor wherever you'd like on your base. As with all furniture, you can pick it up if you get close to it and move it elsewhere.

How to Get an Improved Grappling Hook

The Improved Grappling Hook gives you a small but noticeable reduction in Stamina cost when using it. While the normal Grappling Hook uses 40 Stamina, the Improved Grappling Hook only uses 30 Stamina. The Improved Grappling Hook also has a slightly longer activation range.

Getting the Improved Grappling Hook will require unlocking the Carpenter and The Alchemist. The Alchemist will give you the Quest "The Alchemist's Rumors" which will send you to the Hill of Scavengers. You'll have to defeat the Scavenger Gorger Matron miniboss to complete this quest.

Next, you'll need to collect the following ingredients:

  • 1 Shroud Core
  • 2 Shroud Liquid
  • 3 Shroud Spores
  • 1 Grappling Hook

As stated previously, Shroud Spores can be collected by killing most enemies within the Shroud. Shroud Liquid is a resource that's a little easier to obtain; you simply need to interact with the white balls spread throughout the Shroud.

The Shroud Core is a little more challenging. You can get one by killing certain minibosses in the Shroud such as the Fell Thunderbrute at the bottom of the Elixir Well directly north of the starting area. Alternatively, you can craft a Shroud Core using 10 Shroud Spores and 10 Shroud Liquid at the Alchemist NPC.

Gather up all of the necessary ingredients and speak with the Carpenter. You'll be able to craft the Improved Grappling Hook through his crafting interface. And that's that -- you will now have a much easier time using the Grappling Hook!
