Capcom has announced the Akuma release date for Street Fighter 6, and you'll be able to play as everyone's favorite demonic warrior next month.
Akuma will be released (or perhaps that should be "unleashed") on May 22nd. He was originally revealed in April last year, with a full reveal coming in March this year alongside news that Capcom is already working on a second year of content for Street Fighter 6.
If you happen to own Street Fighter 6's Deluxe or Ultimate Edition, or if you bought the first year's Character Pass or Ultimate Pass, you'll get Akuma as part of that purchase. He'll also be available to purchase separately.
Along with the release date reveal, Capcom also unveiled a new gameplay trailer for Akuma, showing how the fearsome fighter will play in Street Fighter 6.
As you've probably guessed, Akuma's playstyle will be similar to Ryu's and Ken's, but it's slower and more deliberate. If you're a Super Smash Bros. player, think of him as the Wolf to Ryu and Ken's Fox and Falco.
For his projectiles and energy-based attacks, Akuma uses his Satsui no Hado, a dark force with which you'll be familiar if you're a Street Fighter fan of yore.

When Akuma is released, Street Fighter 6 players will also get a free update that contains balance changes for "all characters". Capcom says it'll reveal more info about this update in the coming weeks.
Street Fighter 6 is the sixth mainline installment in the Street Fighter series. Akuma will be its fourth DLC character, following on from the warriors Rashid, A.K.I., and Ed.
