This Enshrouded Building and Comfort Guide will tell you how the building system works, how Comfort works, and how to increase your Comfort score.

Though there's a lot of places to explore on the map in Enshrouded, you're inevitably going to need a base to store all of your loot, farm crops, and simply relax. Enshrouded uses a pretty interesting building system that gives the player a lot of freedom. In this guide, we'll explain how it all works.

How the Enshrouded Building System Works

The Enshrouded Building system is a voxel-based system, but that doesn't mean that you have to place a single block at a time. It's pretty free-form overall and it allows for a wide range of creativity.

Building Blocks are crafted at the Workbench. You'll only have a few Building Block recipes available at the start of the game, but you can gradually unlock more by completing Quests for NPCs and exploring the map.

Once you've created a Construction Hammer, you can activate it to go into Building Mode. This will allow you to place a variety of prefabbed pieces. You can also select individual blocks from your Hotbar and place them one at a time. Regardless of which method you use, you can press "Y" on the keyboard to undo the last placement.

While building pieces do have durability and can be destroyed by your tools (such as the Pickaxe), there is no structural integrity system in the game. It's entirely possible to have floating buildings. The Flame Altar has to be placed on the ground, but it may be possible to dig away the ground underneath it to create a totally floating building.

Do You Need to Defend Your Base?

Strictly speaking, you don't need to defend your base in Enshrouded; enemies won't deliberately attack it or attempt to destroy any of your stuff. There aren't any sieges or anything like that in the game.

However, nearby enemies can and will come after your player character. If you've built your base in an area with hostile mobs, it's a good idea to have some kind of passive defense such as a wall or fence to keep them out.

How Comfort Works

The Comfort Score affects how long you'll get the "Rested" buff which gives you increased maximum Stamina and increased Stamina Regeneration. A Comfort Score of 3 or 4 will give you a few precious minutes of the Rested Buff, but a Comfort Score of 25 or 30 could give you 30 minutes of the Rested Buff or more.

You'll need to be Sheltered (have a roof over your head) and have Warmth (be next to an active fire, which could include your Flame Altar) to get the Rested Buff, along with at least 1 point of Comfort. After that, any additional points in Comfort will increase the duration of the Rested buff.

The Comfort Score is a sum of the best items in each of the Categories such as Beds, Chairs, Tables, etc. If an item does not list Comfort, it will not add to your Comfort Score.

How to Increase Your Comfort Score

Simply put, you can increase your Comfort Score by putting more categories of Furniture in your base or replacing existing Furniture with a higher-quality piece.

What's the Highest Comfort Score?

The highest we've managed to get a Comfort Score is 51. That gives you 1:01:00 of the Rested Buff. However, it may be possible to get it even higher than that.
