The latest installment in the long-running Final Fantasy series launched on June 22nd, and it's already managed to rack up a pretty impressive number of shipments. Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy XVI shipments have topped 3 million since the game's release last week.
On Twitter, Square Enix says it's "delighted" to announce the shipment milestone and also thanks dedicated Final Fantasy fans for their support. Given that Final Fantasy XVI topped UK boxed sales charts during the week of its release, the sales figure probably shouldn't come as a big surprise, but it's still a pretty big achievement for a console exclusive.
This figure isn't quite on the same level as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's astonishing 10 million sales within 3 days, but given Final Fantasy's status as a slightly more niche series than Zelda (albeit still hugely popular in the mainstream), that's to be expected. Look forward to Final Fantasy XVI continuing to dominate the charts in the future.

If you've somehow managed to avoid everything to do with Final Fantasy XVI, it's the sixteenth mainline installment in the Final Fantasy series. Forgoing many of the franchise's RPG trappings for a more streamlined action approach, XVI tells the story of Clive Rosfield, who must uncover the truth behind the destruction of his kingdom and a mysterious malady known as the Blight.
Final Fantasy XVI is headed up by Naoki Yoshida, who's also the producer on the critically-acclaimed MMO Final Fantasy XIV. Indeed, Yoshida, also known as Yoshi-P, has teased a potential collaboration between the two games in the future, so make sure to stay tuned for any further news on that, whatever form it may take. In the meantime, Final Fantasy XVI is available to buy right now on PS5, and you can check out our guides for Clive's adventure to help get you started as well.
