Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki Yoshida has provided an update on how development on the game's upcoming PC version is going.

Speaking to Game Informer, Yoshida-san, also known as Yoshi-P, said that the game is currently in the "final stages of optimization" on PC, and that the release date will depend on how quickly that process is completed.

Yoshi-P also says the team is trying to figure out what the Final Fantasy XVI PC requirements will look like, and that they're likely to be "somewhat high", probably due to the game's visual fidelity.

Chill out, Joshua. Final Fantasy XVI will come to PC soon.

Yoshida-san says he and the team need "more time" in order to pin down a PC release date for Final Fantasy XVI, but that development is proceeding smoothly.

If you're worried about whether your machine will be up to snuff when it comes to running Final Fantasy XVI, you needn't be. Yoshi-P says a demo for the game will likely arrive before the game's release on PC.

He also says that the PC release won't take two years, or even a year, and that it will "probably be shorter than that". It looks like we can expect an announcement on that front pretty soon.

You'll be able to try Final Fantasy XVI out on PC before it's released in full.

Final Fantasy XVI is, believe it or not, the sixteenth mainline installment in the Final Fantasy series.

A darker take on the franchise, it revolves around Clive Rosfield, the son of the Archduke of Rosaria. After his kingdom falls, Clive must embark on a journey to discover the truth behind the war that ravages his world.

Unlike many previous entries in the series, Final Fantasy XVI embraces a purely action-oriented combat system, although it does still retain lighter RPG elements like levels and an equipment system.

The game's first DLC pack, Echoes of the Fallen, launched back in December, and another DLC, titled The Rising Tide, is set to launch sometime this spring. It'll revolve around Leviathan, an Eikon which is mentioned in Final Fantasy XVI but which does not appear.

Final Fantasy XVI is available right now on PlayStation 5. You can check out our very own Andrew Stretch's review of the game here, and make sure to check out our guides if you're having trouble battling the many and varied foes of Valisthea.
