Final Fantasy XVI game director Hiroshi Takai has revealed some new information about what we can expect from the game's two upcoming DLC episodes.
The DLC packs, which were revealed alongside the game's PC port in September, don't have a release date yet, but it sounds like they'll be pretty substantial.
According to comments made by Takai-san (with translation work by Genki on X on an article originally published on the Japanese gaming news platform GAME Watch), the DLCs will allow players to "learn more about the world of Final Fantasy XVI in more detail".
According to Takai-san (via Genki's translation), the DLC episodes will also delve further into the "darkness" and "mystery" of protagonist Clive's story.
In addition, you can also look forward to "new strong enemies and elements to make battles more enjoyable".
That, according to Genki, was as far as Takai-san would go when discussing the new DLCs, so it's likely Square Enix wants to keep a lot of details under its hat for now.
With regards to the upcoming update, it'll focus largely on Final Fantasy XVI's Arcade Mode and will arrive for the game on December 8th.
The update will revolve around how battle performance scores are calculated within Arcade Mode, and it'll also bring a brand new leaderboard to record new scores.
Once you've updated your game, you won't be able to record scores to the old Arcade Mode leaderboard anymore, so if you're planning a run for the ages, you might want to get it done sooner rather than later.
More information will be available for that update closer to its release, so watch this space.
Final Fantasy XVI is having a pretty good time of it right now; the game managed to pick up PlayStation Partner Awards for sales and user appreciation today.
Square Enix says Final Fantasy XVI has sold "in line with [its] expectations", too, and producer Naoki Yoshida, who also serves as the producer on MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV, has teased the possibility of an "even grander" collaboration between the two games in future.
