This guide will tell you how to use the bathroom in Abiotic Factor and how you can use your poop to improve your base. No, really.

Like many other survival games, Abiotic Factor requires you to find food and water. However, this game also has a somewhat rarer mechanic: you'll need to use the bathroom every now and again, and it actually is used for some important gameplay functions. Read on to learn everything you need to know about this deeply uncomfortable subject!

How to Use the Bathroom in Abiotic Factor

Using the bathroom in Abiotic Factor is fairly straightforward. First things first, you can't use the bathroom if you don't have the need; you'll have to wait for some time to pass before you can use a toilet. It seems that eating food and drinking water might increase your need to use the bathroom.

When you're ready to use the bathroom, all you need to do is simply sit on a toilet. There are several toilets spread throughout the facility and porta-potties in the more industrialized areas. You can even craft a Makeshift Toilet if you can find the right items!

Once you've copped a squat on the toilet, you'll have to play a pooping minigame to make things go faster.

The brown bar at the top is how much poop you need to get out. A blue poop symbol will move left and right at the bottom of the bar. Pressing the interact key on the large yellow square will progress the poop meter a little, and pressing interact on the small green square will progress the meter a lot.

Missing either square will not progress the meter and cause the blue poop icon to reset. You are seated and otherwise helpless while using the toilet, so you certainly don't want to do it at any old time — make sure you're safe and far away from any enemies before you go to the bathroom!

How to Get a Bag of Feces

In certain situations, you'll be able to get a Bag of Feces after using the bathroom. This is a crafting resource that doesn't have very many uses in the Early Access launch version of the game, but you still might want to get your hands on some for later.

There are two reliable ways to get a Bag of Feces in Abiotic Factor:

  1. Let the Toilet meter run out and poop on the floor. You can then pick up the poop as long as you have Plastic Scrap in your inventory.
  2. Use a Makeshift Toilet and loot the Bag of Feces from the bucket.

Yes, seriously — pooping yourself is a valid strategy in Abiotic Factor. The Bag of Feces can be used to make a Soil Bag, an essential item for farming. It is a fairly rare item, all things considered, since you can only produce one when a player needs to use the toilet. Unfortunately, you cannot loot a Bag of Feces from a regular toilet since it's flushed away.

How to Use a Portal Toilet

When you get to the Hydroplant, you'll eventually get access to a new type of toilet — the Portal Toilet.

The Portal Toilet lets you use the bathroom in Abiotic Factor with the power of portals

The Portal Toilet is even more advanced than the toilets found in the GATE Facility. It helps you quickly empty your bowels faster than using any of the other toilets with the power of portals.

Unlike other powered devices, the Portal Toilet is powered by lasers. That means that you'll have to craft a Laser Emitter, plug it in to Power, and aim the laser at the back of the Portal Toilet for it to function.

Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately), there's a tiny chance that using the Portal Toilet will take you to another dimension altogether. Make sure to bring a Crafting Bench and a Personal Teleporter with you to this new realm so you can make a return trip!
