This guide will tell you about every Abiotic Factor Base Raid and what you can expect when the enemy attacks your base at night.
Building a base will give you a safe haven in Abiotic Factor, but it's not totally immune from attacks. Sometimes, aliens or humans armed with guns will attack you just after the Power cuts out at 9:00 PM. Read on to learn about the different kinds of Base Raids you can expect to encounter.
How Base Raids Work in Abiotic Factor
As far as we can tell, Abiotic Factor Base Raids can happen as soon as you place down a Crafting Bench, an action that marks an area as your base. You will get one day of advance notice before a Base Raid happens with the following message popping up on the screen:
"The air feels strange. Be on guard tonight..."
It appears that once a Base Raid has been decided, the game randomly rolls between the several different options. There is no way to tell which Base Raid is going to happen until it begins at around 10:00 PM, with the sole exception of a Portal Storm — if you see purple lightning appearing inside of your base, you're going to be swarmed by Pests.
Most Base Raids will spawn a group of enemies outside of your base and they'll move toward the center, destroying any barricades along the way and actively attacking both you and your furniture. Your only option is to kill all of the attacking enemies. If you manage to survive long enough, you'll get the following message:
"The air feels normal again..."
Bear in mind, this message means that the Base Raid is over, but it does not mean that all of the enemies are dead. There could still be aliens or enemy soldiers running around nearby who are all too willing to continue the attack. Thoroughly inspect your base and the surrounding area to make sure that all of your enemies are dead.
Unfortunately, the Crafting Bench's protection does not always work as you'd expect; it seems that it won't prevent raids if there are multiple Crafting Benches covering a wide area. It's possible for enemies to spawn inside your base in areas where there are no players, so make sure you check everywhere when an attack starts — the enemies may already be inside the walls!
Abiotic Factor Base Raid List
Here are the details on every Base Raid we've encountered thus far, categorized by the final warning message you receive right before the attack.
A Portal Storm Has Started!
This is the only Base Raid that you will know is coming for certain due to its different behavior. Small portals that look like purple lightning will begin to form in your base. A total of 3 portals will form before the Base Raid starts; these will be the spawn points for enemies.
When this Base Raid begins, Pests will pop out of the portals one at a time. You'll have to kill somewhere between 6 and 10 Pests before this Base Raid comes to an end. As you open up more Sectors, this Base Raid will upgrade and you'll have to also deal with a Peccary or two toward the end of this attack.
It's important to note that these portals prevent you from building anything in that area until they've disappeared. These portals can also prevent you from opening a door if they're in the way. Building a base in cramped quarters carries the risk of being locked out of your own base by an unlucky portal spawn.
Portal Storms also happen to be the only Base Raid that you can prevent. A certain Crafting Bench upgrade allows you to nullify Portal Storms entirely, although you'll still have to deal with the other kinds of Base Raids.
Something fowl lurks nearby...
This Base Raid signals an attack from aliens. At least one Exor (the humanoid aliens) and two Peccaries (the dog-like aliens) will attack your base in a coordinated fashion, though you may end up facing more. As long as you have barricades, the Exor is the only real threat due to its ranged weapon.
A radio crackle is heard nearby...
A radio crackle signals an impending attack from 3 or so soldiers from the Order. Aside from fighting off soldiers armed with guns, you might also have to dodge grenades if they manage to throw any.
The large number of strong ranged enemies means that you should have an outer perimeter that is at least 5 or 10 meters (15–30 feet) away from anything important in your base such as your bed or storage. If you build your barricades too close, an errant grenade could be thrown right in the middle of your base and seriously damage (or destroy) your stuff.
Make smart use of cover (and, if you can, traps) and pick off the soldiers from the Order one at a time and you should have no problem with this particular Base Raid.
Crystalisk Attack
The invisible "Crystalisk" enemies that you can encounter in Manufacturing West's mines and in certain parts of the Cascade Laboratories can attack your base, too. This particular Base Raid, however, is a little different from the other ones.
An attack from a Crystalisk has no announcement whatsoever; the Crystalisk simply spawns into your base in a cloaked state. It can even appear right on top of your bed! The only way you'll know a Crystalisk is inside of your base is by spotting it or by wandering close enough to it that it provokes an attack.
Fortunately, that same threat is also a boon — the Crystalisk won't attack any of your structures as far as we can tell. It will only attack once a player gets in range.
Zombies
Once you've visited the Furniture Store Portal World, a small group of Zombies can spawn in your base. There is no text message; instead, you'll have to listen for the sound of a portal activating and zombies moaning.
Zombies aren't too difficult to kill, but it's easy enough to miss them if you're not careful. If you've been warned about an incoming attack and you haven't gotten any messages by midnight, you should search your base and the surrounding area for any Zombies — they may already be tearing your structures to pieces!
An Angry Mob Approaches / Torches and Pitchforks
Following the completion of the Canaan Portal World, you can get attacked by a mix of 7 or so Canaanite villagers that will teleport into your base using a portal in a similar fashion to the zombies. These Canaanites are just as tough as the ones in Canaan, so make sure that your base has robust defenses and that you are well-armed to fend them off!
