Our Abiotic Factor Water Guide will tell you how to get water and how you can use stuff around the office to get an infinite supply of renewable water.
Surviving the hazards of Abiotic Factor is about more than killing enemies and defending your base — you'll also need to have a source of food and clean water to meet your needs. Read on to learn everything you need to know about getting clean water and how to ensure that you'll never run out of it.

How to Get Water in Abiotic Factor
There are four ways to get water in Abiotic Factor:
- Drink water from a sink.
- Drink water from a water cooler.
- Collect and purify tainted water.
- Drink tainted water.
Sinks are renewable sources of water, but they fill up very slowly. You should only count on them for the first hour or two of the game at most — you'll run out of water before you know it.
Water coolers provide a large source of clean drinking water, but this is a finite resource; once they're empty, they're empty. Fortunately, you can refill them — you can learn more about that later on in this guide. We'll also address collecting and purifying tainted water in the next section.
Finally, you can drink tainted water from the Office Sector's Plaza fountain or the pool. Unfortunately, this has severe downsides. You will restore some thirst, but you will begin to vomit almost immediately afterward and your hunger will go up. Essentially, you will reduce your thirst but you will gain hunger.
How to Store Water
There are three ways to store water in Abiotic Factor:
- Place it in containers such as water bottles or cooking pots and store those in chests.
- Store water in a water cooler.
- Store water in a Barrel
Using Water Coolers is the best option in the early game as they give you easy access to a lot of water without taking up too much space in your base. Water coolers also allow you to wash yourself if you're dirty.
You'll eventually get access to Barrels once you start exploring the Manufacturing West Sector; these offer a much greater capacity of 10,000 mL in much less space compared to Water Coolers.

How to Get Renewable Water
The best way to get renewable water in Abiotic Factor is to collect tainted water from an endless source, purify it with cooking, and store it in a water cooler. You will need five things to do this:
- A Screwdriver
- A source of tainted water
- A Water Cooler to store it
- A powered Portable Stove or a Stove to boil the tainted water
- At least 1 Cooking Pot
We can get a Water Cooler and a source of tainted water fairly early in the game. Once you've opened the door to the Plaza, walk straight ahead and you'll encounter a fountain. This is your source of tainted water. Turn to your left and you'll see a Water Cooler tucked next to some plants near the staircase.
Walk up to the Water Cooler. You can immediately drink water from it if you need to refill your thirst. As long as you have a Screwdriver, you can package the Water Cooler and take it with you. You can then place the Water Cooler inside of your base like any other piece of furniture.
Next, go up the staircase to the left of the Plaza water fountain where you found the Water Cooler. Head up and follow the signs to the Data Farm. Once you're in the Data Farm, follow the left wall and you'll run into the kitchen.
The kitchen has a lot of useful loot for cooking, but we're here for water stuff. Make sure to pick up the Cooking Pot; you can always come back for the rest of the stuff later. This area is also where you can find your first useful backpack, so you'll definitely want to spend some time looting this area later.
On your way out, look around the office area for a Stapler. 2 Staplers and 3 Metal Scraps can be used to craft a Cooking Pot (Makeshift) which is functionally identical to the Cooking Pot. Ideally, you'll want a total of at least 2 Cooking Pots total, whether they're Makeshift or not.
Finally, we're going to need the items to make a Portable Stove. Here's what you need:
- 2 Coil - Found by destroying computer monitors and security bots
- 4 Plastic Scrap - Found by picking up Binders or destroying certain plastic-based furniture items
- 4 Pipe - Found by ripping them out of the wall; there should be several pipes in the industrial area behind the Cafeteria
- 1 Keyboard - Found in front of nearly every computer in the Office Sector
Make a Stove and connect it to a power source in your base. Then, take at least 2 Cooking Pots and walk out to the fountain in the Plaza. Interact with the water in the fountain while holding the Cooking Pots and you'll be able to fill them up with tainted water.
Take the filled Cooking Pots back to your Portable Stove and place them on top. After a few minutes, the tainted water will be converted into clean water. You can then take the Cooking Pots and interact with the Water Cooler to fill it up.
There are many Water Coolers in the Office Sector at the start of the game; I recommend that you have at least 2 Water Coolers per person in your base. You can make multiple Portable Stoves and multiple Cooking Pots to fill up on clean water faster if needed.
That's everything you need to know to make clean water in Abiotic Factor! You'll need a solid supply of food, too — make sure to check out our Cooking and Food Guide to learn more about that.
Once you make it to the Cascade Laboratories Sector, you'll get access to Refined Carbon which allows you to convert a Barrel into a Water Filter. This massive device allows you to convert up to 10,000 Tainted Water into clean water nearly instantly.
How the Moisture Teleporter Works
The Moisture Teleporter is a new device added in the Crush Depth update that essentially gives you free water, albeit at an extremely slow rate.
Every few minutes, the Moisture Teleporter will activate and deposit a small amount of water in any nearby containers such as Barrels. It appears that it will only deposit a few milliliters at a time. However, this can build up to a significant amount of water over time.
That said, it seems that you would probably need several Moisture Teleporters to meet your needs, even as a solo player. You should really rely on them until you have enough resources to craft several of them and provide them with adequate Power.
