Team17 and Black Salt Games have released a new Dredge update, and it's tailor-made for you if you want to make your boat feel more personal.

Previous Dredge updates have let you take pretty pictures of your boat (and the aberrations that encircle it in the water) and plan your journeys more effectively, but this one's all about customization.

The big new addition in this update is The Painter, a character who you'll now find at Little Marrow. You'll have to get your dredge crane before you can visit him, though.

As you can probably imagine, The Painter will let you change your boat's appearance. You can change its paint job and flag designs, and you'll discover more as you play through the game.

As well as The Painter, this new Dredge update also adds crab aberrations, or craberrations, hem hem. Clearly, there just weren't enough terrifying abominations in Dredge's world.

A new Encylopedia filter will now let you display crabs, too. It's a very crabby update.

You'll also find a number of new shipwrecks dotted around the world, because hey, those crabs have to take their anger out on something, right?

As you might expect, Dredge update 3 also brings some gameplay adjustments and fixes, including rebalanced crab pots (there they are again!) and an issue where the game would take longer than expected to save.

You can check out the full Dredge patch notes if you want to see everything and check whether a particular issue you've been experiencing has been fixed.

Dredge is a horror-inflected fishing adventure game in which you must sail an eldritch ocean in order to make a living from its sealife.

You'll catch fish, sell them for a profit, and upgrade your ship in order to make it easier to, ahem, dredge the depths. Of course, you'll need to be careful of what lurks beneath the seemingly calm surface of the water.

In his Dredge review, our very own Rutledge awarded the game a lofty 9.5 out of 10, lavishing particular praise on its excellent mechanics and mixture of cozy gameplay with horror aesthetics.

If that's made you want to check out the game, we've also managed to dredge up (ahem) a bunch of guides for the game to help you make sense of the maddening revelations you're bound to come across. Check them out!
