Few things work as well for the earnings of gacha games as the introduction of new waifus (or husbandos), and Honkai: Star Rail developer HoYoverse just introduced three of them.
The first is Jingliu, a five-star cryo character following the path of Destruction. We already saw her as the Mara-struck mentor of general Jing Yuan, and apparently, she'll somehow be back to join our team.
Here's how she's officially described and a lovely illustration:
"Whoever wishes to learn my swordplay, I will teach them."
One of the legendary heroes making up the High-Cloud Quintet, and bestowed with the title "Transcendent Flash." Having ascended beyond mortal concepts of victory, she chose to walk a different path to obtain the power capable of slaying gods.
Thereafter, one Sword Champion of the Luofu was removed from the Xianzhou's records, and one traitor erased from the annuals was added.
She's voiced in Eglish by Amanda "AmaLee" Lee and in Japanese by Houko Kuwashima.
The second character is Topaz, accompanied by her pet trotter Numby. She's a five-star pyro character following the path of the Hunt.
"Money is a means, not an end. Work should make you happy... That's the most fundamental principle."
Topaz, Senior Manager of the Strategic Investment Department in the Interastral Peace Corporation, and leader of the Special Debts Picket Team. Already a member of the "Ten Stonehearts" at a young age, Topaz's core stone is the "topaz of debt retrieval."
Her partner, the Warp Trotter "Numby," is also capable of acutely perceiving where "riches" are located. It can even perform jobs involving security, debt collection, and actuarial sciences. Presently they are traversing the cosmos together, chasing down various debts and liabilities that negatively influence the IPC's commercial ventures.
Her English voice ctress is Sam Slade while Yoshino Nanjou plays her in Japanese.
Lastly, we get Guinaifen, also a pyro character, but she follows the path of the Nihility and she's a four-star.
"Would you like to see me break that stone slab with my chest?"
An outworlder who ended up residing on the Xianzhou by accident. She is now a passionate and vivacious street performer. With her real name being Guinevere, Guinaifen is the Xianzhou name given to her by her good friend Sushang.
Faced with a whole new life on the Loufu and relying on her adoration of Xianzhou culture, Guinaifen quickly learned skills that would keep her clothed and fed — these being eating noodles upside down, smashing large stone upon the chest of others, and catching projectiles with her bare hands, et cetera.
She's voiced in English by Morgan Lauré, while her Japanese voice is Hina Suguta.
At the moment, we don't know when they'll be made available in the gacha. Tomorrow we'll see the reveal of the next major update for the game, Version 1.3 titled "Celestial Eyes Above Mortal Ruins." Yet, everything it's probable that it'll include Imbibitor Lunae, Lynx, and Fu Xuan.
This makes the characters introduced today likely to be added in version 1.4.
Honkai: Star Rail is available for PC through a standalone client and the Epic Games Store, as well as on iOS and Android devices. Although the developers have announced that they are working on a PlayStation 5 port, no firm release date has been shared besides "Q4 2023" for now.
