We already knew that Honkai: Star Rail is a very successful game but today we get a better idea of just how popular it is, as HoYoverse announced that it has passed 100 million downloads.
According to a press release shared by HoYoverse with TechRaptor, the milestone was achieved across all platforms the game is available on, PS5, PC, iOS, and Android.
The announcement comes just before the release of version 2.0, which will introduce a new planet and new characters tomorrow.
It's already rare for a developer to achieve this kind of milestone, but HoYoverse certainly has reasons to celebrate, since Honkai: Star Rail's groundbreaking success follows that of its predecessor, Genshin Impact, which is also extremely popular.
The game is free-to-play, which certainly contributed to its success since people can try it without having to spend a dime. Yet, there are plenty of microtransactions to be had for those who like to partake. It's also certainly a testament to the fact that turn-based RPG gameplay is far from obsolete.
Incidentally, today's press release also shares that Honkai: Star Rail is now compatible with the new Apple Vision Pro, while a show to celebrate the release of version 2.0 will be aired today at 5:00 pm PDT, promising "amusing news, compelling interviews, musical performances, and captivating scene theatre."
You can watch the show in a few hours on the game's official YouTube channel.
Despite the popularity of Honkai: Star Rail and Genshin Impact, HoYoverse isn't stopping and is already hard at work on the next game Zenless Zone Zero, an urban fantasy action RPG that appears to be built on similar principles, but offers a different gameplay style, characters, and story.
On top of the initial PC, iOS, and Android, a PS5 version has just been announced, and you can read our interview with the producer to learn more. The game is currently in beta and doesn't yet have a firm release date.
