Publisher Anchor and developer NextNinja shared that the upcoming Muv-Luv mobile game Muv-Luv Dimensions has passed 400,000 pre-registrations.
This comes just before the game's Japanese release, which will happen tomorrow, July 11, for iOS and Android.
This means another unlock achieved in the ongoing pre-registration campaign in the form of a "Teito Moyu" event within the Probability Space-Time System.
If you're unfamiliar with it, Teito Moyu, which translates as "The Burning of the Imperial Capital City" is the prologue if Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse, also portrayed in the first episode of the dedicated anime. It's a particularly beloved and grim chapter of the story and previously, 300,000 pre-registration unlocked it in novel form.
Speaking of anime, the developer released the first episode of the Muv-Luv Alternative anime on YouTube to celebrate tomorrow's release. You can watch it below. Unfortunately, it's only in Japanese, but the English-subtitled version can be watched on Crunchyroll.
If you aren't familiar with Muv-Luv Dimensions, it's a free-to-play mobile game for iOS and Android based on the popular Muv-Luv visual novel series. It was originally released last year as Muv-Luv Immortals, but it was affected by significant problems and immediately withdrawn.
Publisher aNCHOR decided to completely overhaul the game bringing in seasoned mobile developer NextNinja, which is now preparing for a full relaunch.
If you'd like to see more, recently we saw character trailers for Mana Tsukuyomi, Marimo Jinguuji, Ilfriede von Feulner, Yui Takamura, Takatsugu Ikaruga, and Chizuru Sakaki on top of a TV commercial. For now, the game has been announced only for Japan. But hopefully, aNCHOR and NextNinja will release it in English as well down the line.
The franchise is widely considered one of the best (if not the best) visual novel series of all time and one of the first isekai stories that made waves within Japanese pop culture when the genre wasn't as oversaturated as it is now.
It mixes a tragic and romantic story with one of the best and deepest sci-fi worlds ever written. It's so influential that Attack on Titan mangaka Hajime Isayama cited it multiple times as one of his main sources of inspiration.
Most Muv-Luv visual novels are currently available in English on Steam (while Muv-Luv and Muv-Luv Alternative have also been released on PS Vita) alongside the early access action game Project MIKHAIL: A Muv-Luv War Story. Incidentally, they're heavily discounted at the moment, due to the Summer sale.
