Muv-Luv Dimensions

Today aNCHOR hosted a livestream to share plenty of news about the upcoming mobile game Muv-Luv Dimensions.

The most relevant news is that the game is now accepting pre-registrations for iOS and Android

We also take a look at a new trailer, which mixes in footage from the recently aired Muv-Luv Alternative anime series.

Another interesting element is an explanation of the setting, as you can see in the slide below. The game is set in 2023 in a peaceful world that is a completely different branch in the Muv-Luv multiverse.

Specifically, it branches off Muv-Luv Extra. If you're not familiar with the original visual novel, it's basically our and Takeru Shirogane's original world. In this branch, the aliens named BETA suddenly invade much later (compared to the other branches), in 2010, and there is no countermeasure against them, causing the world to sink into the bleakest despair. The player is a member of a private military company that owns TSF (the series' Tactical Surface Fighter mecha) which actually shouldn't exist in that branch of the space-time continuum.

Muv-Luv Dimensions Timeline

Next, we get to take a look at brand-new gameplay, which has been considerably improved since the last time we saw it, on top of a look at the First Episode of the Muv-Luv Alternative visual novel that can be unlocked within the Probability Space-Time System. This mode lets you unlock Muv-Luv's visual novels on your smartphone.

More clips showcase three characters, Meiya Mitsurugi, Kei Ayamine, and Mikoto Yoroi, and their abilities in battle.

Last, but not least, below you can check out the rewards that will be offered depending on the number of pre-registrations.

  • 50,000 - Meiya Mitsurgi (R)
  • 100,000 - Collaboration with the beloved visual novel Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien

Muv-Luv Dimensions Pre-registration

If you don't know Muv-Luv Dimensions, it's a free-to-play mobile game for iOS and Android based on the popular Muv-Luv visual novel series. It was originally released last year as Muv-Luv Immortals, but it was affected by significant issues and immediately withdrawn. Publisher aNCHOR decided to completely overhaul the game bringing in seasoned mobile developer NextNinja, which is now preparing to for a full relaunch.

For now, the game has been announced only for Japan. We'll have to wait and see if aNCHOR releases it in English as well down the line.

As mentioned above, the franchise is widely considered one of the best (if not the best) visual novel series of all time (even the AI of the new Bing agrees albeit it obviously can't get past the PTSD) and one of the first isekai stories that made waves within Japanese pop culture when the genre wasn't as oversaturated as it is now. It mixes a tragic and romantic story with one of the best and deepest sci-fi worlds ever written. It's so influential that Attack on Titan mangaka Hajime Isayama cited it multiple times as one of his main sources of inspiration.

Most Muv-Luv visual novels are currently available in English on Steam (while Muv-Luv and Muv-Luv Alternative have also been released on PS Vita) alongside the early access action game Project MIKHAIL: A Muv-Luv War Story, while an official localization of the prequel visual novel Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien is finally in the works.

Recently, we also saw the release of volume 1 of the Muv-Luv Regenerative magazine on Steam, delving deeper into the world of the franchise.
