Hoyoverse has revealed the release date for Genshin Impact version 4.0, as well as lots of new info about the content we can expect from the update. It's coming on August 16th.
As previously teased, we'll be visiting the region of Fontaine, a "hub of culture, art, and technology" located north of Sumeru.
It's ruled by the Hydro Archon Focalors, under whose reign trials have become "important public events at the Opera Epiclese". You'll also get to enjoy the latest chapter of the Archon Quest in this beautiful location.
Much of your exploration in Fontaine will be done underwater, where you'll find new gameplay mechanics including a new resource called Aquatic Stamina, which you'll have to manage to survive.
Combat undertaken underwater will feel significantly different to land-based combat, and you'll even be able to absorb aquatic enemies' abilities to help you navigate your environment and collect treasure.
Two new bosses have been unveiled for Genshin Impact version 4.0: the operatic Icewind Suite, in which you'll take on a "dancing clockwork meka duo", and the Emperor of Fire and Iron, a literal giant enemy crab.
Fontaine's first trio of playable characters will also debut in version 4.0. They are Pyro archer Lyney, Anemo swordswoman Lynette, and Cryo claymore wielder Freminet.
In technical terms, meanwhile, the update will bring some PlayStation improvements to better leverage the capabilities of Sony's machines, including Global Illumination support, motion controls, and speedier loading times.
You can look forward to checking out Genshin Impact version 4.0 when it launches across PC, PlayStation consoles, and mobile devices on August 16th. Stay tuned for more info on all things Genshin Impact!
