Our LEGO Fortnite Vehicle Guide will go over how to create and power vehicles, either using presents or by making your very own creations.

Simple vehicles were possible in the release version of LEGO Fortnite, but with the Mechanical Mayhem update, you can now go even further. You have options for turning, powering vehicles, and even some simple circuitry.

The Speeder vehicle recipe.

Vehicle Recipes

If you don’t want to make a custom LEGO Fortnite vehicle, there are a few set recipes that can be unlocked by obtaining certain items:

  • Speeder - Unlock by obtaining a Power Cell. Requires 18 Wooden Rods, 8 Cords, 2 Planks, 9 Granite, 9 Wood.
  • Offroader - Unlock by obtaining Flexwood. Requires 20 Wooden Rods, 31 Granite, 16 Flexwood, 9 Planks, 8 Cords, 4 Flexwood Rods, 2 Torches, 2 Glass, 34 Wood.
  • Hauler - Unlock by obtaining Frostpine. Requires 52 Wooden Rods, 102 Wood, 63 Granite, 30 Frostpine, 24 Flexwood, 10 Planks, 8 Cords, 6 Frostpine Rods, 2 Torches, 2 Glass.

Pre-built vehicle recipes are found at the bottom of the builds tab of the build menu, and are created in stages like other buildings.

How to Get Power Cells

Power Cells are not only needed to unlock the Speeder vehicle recipe, but also to power any vehicle you make. They can be crafted at any tier of crafting bench, requiring 6 Glass and 50 Biomass.

Turning meat into Biomass at a Compost Bin.

Making Biomass

LEGO Fortnite Biomass is a new processed material, created using a Compost Bin. You can place plant and natural materials such as vines, fish, bones, and meat to get new resources. Each item has a chance of creating Soil, Fertilizer, or Biomass once fully processed.

The easiest items to use are usually bones, since skeletons will often attack your villages and be killed by NPCs. Seeds can also work if you have an abundance of them. Since processing takes a while (though 10 items can be processed at once), it's always worth setting things to go in the Compost Bin before heading off to do another task.

Selecting a Small Driver's Seat from the build menu while looking at a vehicle.

Custom Vehicles

Vehicles are made up of a number of key components, which are required for your custom vehicles to function. The main parts that make up a vehicle are:

Main Vehicle Parts

  • Power Centers - By placing Power Cells inside, you can power vehicles for a certain amount of time. There are three sizes of Power Center, with larger ones being able to carry more Power Cells at a time.
  • Driver’s Seats - Required to be able to control a vehicle. Regular seating of any type can also be added to vehicles to allow for passengers.
  • Powered Wheels - Can spin forwards and backwards.
  • Turnable Wheels - Same as Powered Wheels, but can also pivot left and right.

Other than that, you’re free on which pieces you use to build the rest of the vehicle. While there are number of pieces in the Vehicle Parts section of the Toy menu, you’re not actually limited to those. You can use building parts that would normally be used for houses, and even add decorations like lighting or seats.

The best way to create custom vehicles is by starting with the Car Jack vehicle parts. Place one of these, then build the vehicle on top. Once done, you can interact with the Car Jack to deattach it from the rest of the build.

Modifying a thruster on the back of a square vehicle.

Modifying Vehicles

Vehicles in LEGO Fortnite have a couple of extra bells and whistles you can make use of via a Wrench. Wrenches are made at any Crafting Bench, requiring 3 Wooden Rods and 1 Cord. When equipped, they have a few functions.

For starters, you can use them to change the default direction wheels turn. After making a vehicle, sometimes you’ll find that it’s spinning in a circle. The wrench can fix this, ensuring that all of the wheels are spinning the same way.

The more interesting use is for modifying thrusters. Vehicles have access to three channels, each tied to a different button press. Using a Wrench, you can link thrusters to different channels. This means that you can activate specific thrusters while driving, rather than having to manually activate them by hand.

This also applies to the activation switch, which can also be linked to one or multiple channels. Doing so allows you to control vehicles somewhat without having a Driver’s Seat, or allow other players to control certain thrusters separately.
