Our LEGO Fortnite Tool and Weapon Guide will go over how to craft tools, and the way to unlock higher tier versions of each.
Crafting Tools and Weapons
Most gathering must be done with the use of tools. However, these tools cannot be made in the building menu. Instead, you must first place down a Crafting Bench.
Crafting Benches are made with 3 Wood and 5 Granite, 2 resources that can be gathered without the use of tools — some should be available near the area you spawn in every world.
You can place Crafting Benches on any surface that's flat enough, though we'd recommend placing your main ones inside Villages. Villagers will often make use of these to craft their own tools and weapon (this doesn't use up your resources).
Upgrading a Crafting Bench
Once placed, you'll be able to make the first tier of weapons and tools, along with a few other necessities like Torches. To be able to make higher tier tools, you must upgrade the workbench itself.
This is done by interacting with it, then selecting the "bench upgrade" option at the top. Upgrades must be done for each individual Crafting Bench you have placed, but if you destroy an upgraded workbench you are refunded all materials used.
All LEGO Fortnite Crafting Bench Upgrades
Upgrade Tier | Requires | Unlocks |
---|---|---|
Uncommon | 8 Planks, 3 Shells | Uncommon tool crafting, Cool-Headed Charm |
Rare | 12 Knotroot Rods, 15 Marble Slabs, 6 Sand Claws, 3 Sand Shells. | Rare tool crafting, new charms including Inner Fire Charm. |
Epic | 15 Copper Bars, 25 Obsidian Slabs, 1 Brute Scale. | Epic tool crafting, new charms. |
Tool Tiers
Unlike other survival crafting games like Minecraft or Valheim, LEGO Fortnite tool and weapon names generally do not change as you make better versions. Instead, they're differentiated by "rarities".
Rarities go in a set order: Common (Gray), Uncommon (Green), Rare (Blue), and Epic (Purple). Higher tier tools are always better than their lower tier counterparts, doing more damage against enemies or resources and having higher durability.
Recurve Crossbows, the other main weapon type outside of swords, also have rarities that increase damage done. However, each rarity tier still uses regular Arrows as ammo.
Essences
Essence Tables, unlocked once you have access to Flexwood and Cut Amber, can be used to add various effects to LEGO Fortnite tools and weapons.
Once applied, these bonuses cannot be removed, and you can only add 3 essences to a single tool or weapon. You can stack multiple of the same type of essence on a single item, if you want to improve their effects.
The first two essences are unlocked automatically, while future ones are unlocked through picking up new resources.
