We now have a Pokemon TCG Pokemon Go expansion release date. The first cards in this special crossover set will begin launching in July 2022, with more sets to follow at a later date. Each set will include a number of booster packs and a special trainer card.

How will the Pokemon TCG Pokemon Go expansion work?

This new expansion for Pokemon TCG was originally announced last month, but now we're getting a look at how collecting these new special cards will work. Per the official Pokemon website, each collection will consist of six booster packs and one special trainer card. It looks like there will be three sets on offer, at least in the Special Collection bundle; each set is based on a different team from Pokemon Go, and the special trainer card will be based on that team's leader.

Each Pokemon TCG Pokemon Go expansion card Special Collection set will have a special trainer card from a Pokemon Go team.

Releases for the Pokemon TCG Pokemon Go expansion will begin on July 1st, with further releases coming "at a later date", according to The Pokemon Company. You won't be able to purchase booster packs for this expansion separately, so if you want to get the cards, you're going to need to buy these products. Here are all the options you'll have for purchasing cards in the Pokemon TCG Pokemon Go expansion. The Pokemon Company isn't revealing exactly what will be in the set yet cardwise; we'll likely get more details in the coming weeks.

Pokemon TCG is firing on all cylinders

Right now, Pokemon TCG is doing pretty well for itself. There's a major video game version on the way that's coming to mobile devices and PCs (although it's been delayed in the latter case), and as usual, the cards themselves are commanding some insane prices for rare editions. In October 2020, a first-edition Charizard TCG card sold for an eye-watering $220,000, while a Pikachu illustrator card was traded for multiple rare cards in December that same year, with the total value estimated to be more than $900,000. Pokemon TCG, it seems, is no laughing matter.

It's all go at Pokemon Go HQ as well (no pun intended). The game recently enjoyed a Tour event themed around the second gen's Johto region, with Gen 8-themed bonuses up for grabs including Hisuian Electrode and an avatar outfit for the eldritch monstrosity known as Ball Guy. It's fair to say that The Pokemon Company is riding high right now, but the company still found time to donate $200,000 to Ukrainian relief recently in the wake of the Russian invasion. We'll bring you more on the upcoming release of more Pokemon TCG Pokemon Go expansion cards as soon as we get it.
