Pokemon Trading Card Game Scarlet & Violet

The Pokemon Company has released new information on the Scarlet & Violet trading card game expansion and we learn that not only will we see new Tera Pokemon but the ex Mechanic has been brought back.

The ex Mechanic comes back to the TGC with a slight twist. Previously, Pokemon ex featured Pokemon that had a large amount of HP as well as very powerful attacks. This time around, Pokemon ex in Scarlet & Violet can be Basic, Stage 1, or Stage 2, and players will have to sacrifice two Prize Cards if they get Knocked Out.

On top of the revamped ex system, the expansion features new Tera Pokemon. These were inspired by the Terastal phenomenon within the Scarlet & Violet video games, and the cards will feature unique artwork that sets the Tera Pokemon ex cards apart from the rest. The new cards will follow the same type of guidelines as the Pokemon ex cards, but will no longer take damage from attacks if they are on the Bench.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet TCG Boxes

The Pokemon company recently announced that they will be re-designing several cards from the TCG, starting with Scarlet & Violet. The expansion will feature fully-etched cards, as well as a bright and simplistic color palette. More so, the rare Pokemon cards will showcase the creatures in all of their evolution states in a row. It will also show these pokemon within their natural environment and showcase each of their personalities.

Here are a few of the cards worth noting that will be available when the expansion releases:

  • 12 double rare Pokemon ex, including two Tera Pokemon ex featuring Arcanine and Gyarados
  • 12 ultra rare Pokemon ex and eight ultra rare Supporter cards
  • 24 illustration rare Pokemon
  • 10 special illustration rare Pokemon and Supporter cards
  • Six hyper rare gold fully-etched cards, which could include Pokemon ex, Trainer, and Energy cards

The expansion is set to release worldwise on March 31, 2023.
