Today Psyonix and Epic Games released a new update in Rocket Racing, the recently released arcade racing game within Fortnite.
The update, numbered 28.10, includes a few new goodies that might please those who have been enjoying the title.
We start with the biggest feature, which is a pair of new advanced tracks. The first is "Lazy Lake 2" and you can unlock it by reaching Gold I in ranked racing.
The second new map is "K2 Raceway Deux," and you'll have to work a little harder to unlock it.
Since it's designed for experienced racer, it requires Platinum I rank to be available.
We're also getting a new cars customization option in the form of colored trails. Everyone is getting the default Drift Smoke Trail in their locker and you can unlock different colors with Season Zero Tune Up Quests.
Here's what they look like.
We're also getting improved touch controls for those playing on mobile as follows.
- The D-pad, as well as the accelerate, Turbo, air dodge, and jump buttons, have all received visual and usability improvements.
- Auto Accelerate is now enabled. It can be toggled on or off.
- To stop, you now press and hold the brake button. Once you reach 0 on the speedometer, you’ll start to reverse.
Lastly, some major improvements and bug fixes have been included in the patch. Especially the tuning of collision is probably going to please many players.
- Improved overall CPU performance, especially on lower-end devices.
- Sitting idle during a race will now put the player back in the Lobby.
- Car collision is now less severe. We’ll continue to improve this interaction over future updates.
- Air dodging is now smoother when landing.
- Have the pre-race jitters? You can now wiggle and swivel the camera before a race!
- The “Invert Steer Method” setting, which inverts steering controls when upside down, now properly remains enabled when changed.
- Fixed an issue related to players getting stuck post-race.
- Fixed an issue on Android that prevented players from switching languages.
If you're not familiar with Rocket Racing, it's a free-to-play and full-fledghed game that can be played within Fortnite. Youn can easily enjoy it without spending a single dollar, but there are microtransactions available if you'd like to partake.
It was released in December and debuted with over 500,000 concurrent users, albeit the player counts are much smaller nowadays. It's part of a wave of new experiences including LEGO Fortnite and Fortnite Festival, which represent Epic Games' effort to turn Fortnite into a full-fledged metaverse.
