Final Fantasy XIV CEO Takashi Kiryu

Today, during a livestream from Japan, the new CEO of Square Enix Takashi Kiryu introduced himself to the players of Final Fantasy XIV.

Kiryu-san will replace former CEO Yosuke Matsuda, who is retiring from the company. Matsuda-san himself was present at the livestream to say farewell to the player base, having been quite active in his support of Final Fantasy XIV and often appearing at dedicated events over the ten years of his tenure at the helm of the company.

Interestingly, we learn that Kiryu-san is a fellow Warrior of Light, as he actively plays Final Fantasy XIV alongside his wife. She's the veteran of the family, and she often encourages Kiryu-san in his progression within the game.

As you can see in the pictures, he was wielding the limited edition Fender guitar dedicated to the game, which he purchased himself. One of his goals is to support the development team in making the popular MMORPG even better. He mentioned that FFXIV is already the best game in the world, and he aims to make it the best in the universe.

The game is one of the most popular MMORPGs on currently available the planet, having pulled a basically miraculous recovery with its relaunch as "A Realm Reborn" in 2013 after its original release in 2010.

After its fourth expansion "Endwalker," it currently counts 27 million registered accounts worldwide. The game just received its update 6.35 with plenty of new content for players to enjoy, while 6.38 is coming soon after an extended maintenance. The English localization of the Final Fantasy XIV: Eorzea Academy Manga by Esora Amaichi has also been announced by Square Enix a few days ago.

Square Enix also just made the Stormblood expansion accessible for a limited time with no additional purchase required to those who own the Starter Edition, while producer and director Naoki Yoshida shared his ambitions for the future of the game during a recent event at PAX East

Last, but not least, today we learned the first details of update 6.4, which will be titled The Dark Throne and will come in Late May.
