Today Bandai Namco announced that Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown has now sold over 5 million copies.

The announcement was made on X (formerly Twitter) and welcomed with many celebratory comments from the franchise's dedicated community.

The developer is also celebrating with a brand new wallpaper, which you can see below and download in a variety of resolutions at the game's official site.

The game launched in 2019 after eight years without a mainline installment, returning to its alternate world of Strangereal twelve years after Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation, following a rather poorly received attempt to cater to the Call of Duty crowd by setting Ace Combat: Assault Horizon in the real world.

Luckily, Ace Combat 7 revitalized the series, selling record numbers for the series and proving that there were still many fans loving it alongside new ones happy to embrace its unique take on arcade air combat and storytelling.

Incidentally, recently Bandai Namco also released the second video of the Ace Combat Superweapon Official Commentary series, in which real-world military experts discuss the franchise's iconic fictional superweapons. This time around, it's all about the Arkbird from the legendary Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War

You can watch it below.

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown is currently available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. If you haven't yet joined the five million players mentioned above, I can't recommend this game more and you can purchase a copy on Amazon.

Incidentally, if my recommendation isn't enough, you can also read our review, in which our Sam Guglielmo awarded Project Aces' game with an 8.5 out of 10.

We also know that another Ace Combat game is in development in partnership with ILCA, but we don't know anything else besides the fact that the developers are building it with Epic Games' Unreal Engine 5.
