Today Sega released another trailer for 404 Game Re:Set, a new mobile JRPG directed by NieR creator Yoko Taro.
The trailer introduces the second form (Cathode) of the girls who will be playable in the game, Out Run. We previously saw her anode form alongside After Burner, Virtua Cop, and Virtua Fighter. As you may or may not already know, she's basically the waifu version of the 1986 arcade game by Sega.
She's voiced by Ai Kakuma, whom you may know for having voiced Yuri Sakazak in recent The King of Fighters games, Rosaria in Genshin Impact, Edelgard von Hresvelg in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Setsuna in I am Setsuna, and Ion in Ciel Nosurge and Ar Nosurge.
If you're familiar with Japanese games and media, you likely won't be too shocked by the concept of turning pretty much anything they can think of into girls. Japan's pop culture has brought us catgirls, shipgirls, airplane girls, horsegirls, game console girls... and now we get video game girls. With Yoko Taro at the helm, that was probably just a matter of time.
You can check out the trailer below.
If you're unfamiliar with 404 Game Re:Set, also known as Error Game Reset, it's an upcoming mobile JRPG born of a partnership between Sega and Yoko Taro announced recently after a mysterious tease.
It's for iOS and Android and free-to-play, which means that it also comes with the inevitable gacha, which explains why Sega is taking its beloved franchises like Out Run, After Burner, Virtua Cop, and Virtua Fighter, and turning them into waifus you can unlock.
They will form a resistance against a distorted world in which Sega itself has taken over. It's Yoko Taro all right. At the moment, a western release for this game has not been announced. We'll see if Sega will decide to bring it over down the line.
