Our Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough will help you survive the Immortan System and expand the Tiqqun by opening up Sector 2 and Sector 3!

Ixion Chapter 1 WalkthroughIxion Chapter 2 Walkthrough | Ixion Chapter 3 Walkthrough >

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - Getting Started

We've entered a new system. That brings with it new problems -- and new opportunities. In the previous chapter, we set up the Tiqqun to be relatively stable and self-sufficient. Leaving the cradle of human civilization is going to have a negative effect on the Crew and the Tiqqun. You'll have to meet these problems head-on before you make any serious progress in this sector of space.

Here's the first of the new realities in the Immortan System -- one EVA Airlock is no longer enough to keep up with the Hull Integrity. The second VOHLE Jump has damaged the Hull further, permanently reducing its Integrity by 100 and increasing the rate at which it is constantly drained.

Unfortunately, we're plum out of space in Sector 1 -- we need new facilities and we don't have anywhere to put them. That means that our first step will be to open up Sector 2.

First, pause the game. (Every second counts right now!) Click on the wall to Sector 2 and select "Override Locks" -- it will cost you 80 Alloy, 1 Electronics, and 16 Food. It will also transfer 40 Population to the new area.

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 01 Opening Sector 2

Next, click on the Tech Lab to access the Tech Tree.

Click on the Tech Lab icon in the Tech Tree and click "Assistant Promotion" -- this will boost the Science generated by the Tech Lab from 1 every 30 Cycles to 3 every 5 Cycles.

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 02 Assistant Promotion Research

Our next step will be to go to the Planetary System Map (F3). The Tiqqun has parked itself right next to a planet called "Falcon 74." This planet will give us a boost in Science for the cost of a bit of Alloy. Send one of your Science Ships over to Falcon 74.

We're also going to need to secure a source of Iron for repairing the Hull Integrity and for new Buildings, so let's send a Probe out, too.

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 03 Space Weather

See that grey cloud to the right? That is "Space Weather." Any Ships flying through it (the Tiqqun included) will take severe damage and can quickly be destroyed.

There is a Point of Interest on the other side of that Space Weather, but we're not going anywhere near it just yet. The reason I'm pointing this location out is as a warning -- pay attention to where the Tiqqun is relative to where you're sending Ships or Probes. If a Ship or Probe passes through the Space Weather, it will be destroyed.

Finally, turn on the Cryonics Center back online. We're going to need more Workers (and Non-Workers) ASAP, so it's best to start waking them up now. We have decent stockpiles of supplies, and that gives us a small buffer to do some work.

Falcon 74 and Opening Sector 2

Unpause the game, and let's get moving on Falcon 74. Falcon 74 is automatically revealed when you start Chapter 2 -- it's right next to the starting point of the Tiqqun. It has 15 Science available right off the bat. This location has four choices for you to make:

  • Perform intrusive analysis (1 Cycle)
    • Result - 30 Science, disables other choices.
  • Set up a temporary study center. (10 Alloy, 3 Cycles, 1 Cargo Ship.)
    • Result - 45 Science, 1 Crew Member killed, -5% Trust Penalty, disables other choices
  • Establish infrastructure to support exploration and geological analysis. (20 Alloy, 4 Cycles, 1 Cargo Ship)
    • Result - 60 Science, disables other choices
  • Leave the planet.
    • Result - Disables all choices.

The clear solution here is to pick "Establish infrastructure to support exploration and geological analysis." The 20 Alloy is well worth the return of 60 Science, and you'll get another 15 Science on top of that from when you first visited the planet.

Return to the Tiqqun Interior View (F1) and wait for Sector 2 to be opened. As soon as it is, we're going to start Building a lot of new stuff (and demolishing some old structures in Sector 1.)

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 04 Sector 2 Open

By the time Sector 2 is open, we'll have three new Requests. One Request adds a permanent -1 Stability since we've left Earth's system. Another Request insinuates that you are actually an A.I., provoking a stunned response from your character. (But hey, it gives us a 10% Trust Bonus, so we'll take it.) The final Request simply acknowledges that Sector 2 is opened and gives you another 10% Trust Bonus.

We're also going to need to move some Alloy over to Sector 2 to fuel our construction, so let's go over how that works. Click on "Resource Management" at the bottom of the screen, and set things up something like this for Alloy:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 05 Transferring Resources Between Sectors

The blue line determines how many resources should be in a Sector. Anything after the blue line will be exported to other Sectors if there are resources available.

In this image, the excess Alloy from Sector 01 will be sent over to Sector 02 until there is 50 Alloy in Sector 2 (unless there isn't any Alloy to send). This will help bolster construction in that area.

When Sector 2 opens, it will have a population of 40, no Food, no Buildings, and a few Supply Piles with a pittance of Alloy spread out throughout the entire Sector.

Pause the game again, and let's set up some Roads and basic Buildings. (Remember, we can't actually Build anything else until the basics are plopped down.)

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 06 Sector 2 Basic Buildings

We're going to tuck all of these buildings out of the way for now so we can get to clearing out the Supply Piles stacked throughout Sector 2. You'll need a Workshop and 2 Stockpiles -- one for Food, one for Alloy --, an Optimized Quarter, a Mess Hall, and an Infirmary for starters.

Moving these Workers over may cause a temporary shortage back in Sector 1. Power down the Steel Mill and Polymer Refinery if needed to save on workers, but remember that you'll need Alloy to keep things going.

Unpause the game and let the construction proceed.

As a quick aside, there is a possibility that you may not have enough Workers to run Sector 2, which will cause it to automatically shut down. You need a minimum of 30 Workers in a Sector to keep it working.

To transfer Workers, simply click on Population Management at the bottom of the screen. The interface is pretty self-explanatory:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 07 Transfer Workers

Move however many Workers you need to bring Sector 2 up to 30 Workers.

While the initial wave of Sector 2 construction is underway, we're going to send out another Probe:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 08 DO-G-0202

This probe will lead to DO-G-0202, a Point of Interest that is one of three required for "The Protagoras" objective.

After the Probe is away, click on the Tech Lab, then click on the Workshop icon and Research "Stanford Initiative." This will allow Workshops to automatically repair damaged Buildings, minimizing downtime and reducing the problems caused by accidents.

When the initial wave of construction is finished in Sector 2, it's time to build more Roads to collect up all of that delicious Alloy:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 09 Alloy Roads

Exploring DO-G-0202 and Moving Food

Send your other Science Ship to DO-G-0202 while this next wave of construction is ongoing. DO-G-0202 is home to a damaged Mining Ship and is required for "The Protagoras" objective. You'll only have one option at first:

  • Extract navigation data from the [Mining Ship]. (3 Cycles)
    • Result - 2 Electronics, 627 Iron (Fe)

Completing the salvage operation will open up two new options.

  • Determine the cause of the [Mining Ship's] destruction. (3 Cycles)
    • Result - 45 Science, disables all options except for "Leave DO-G-0202."
  • Leave DO-G-0202.
    • Result - Disables all other choices.

Selecting "Extract navigation data from the [Mining Ship] and then "Determine the cause of the [Mining Ship's] destruction" is the way to go. Both of these options are worthwhile and have no risk (unless one of your ships happens to fly into the space storm.)

Back to Sector 2 -- we're going to need to set up Food so that Sector 2 has what it needs to feed everyone over there:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 10 Food Transfer

That will ensure that the Insect Farms in Sector 01 will move Food over to Sector 02 continually, making up for the lack of an Insect Farm in Sector 02.

Restoring Hull Integrity

Our next step is to fix the problem of the Hull Integrity gradually falling -- it's time to build another EVA Airlock. We're also going to build another Optimized Quarter to house additional Population if needed.

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 11 EVA Airlock 2

At some point, you may get a request about "The Dangers of Space Exploration." You can pledge that no one dies on exploration missions in the Immortan System safely -- I'll be able to guide you to the correct decisions that prevent any Crew deaths.

Our Hull Integrity crisis will be temporarily averted once our Airlock is online. Now it's time to do some more permanent construction -- we're going to build 4 Stockpile - Small, a new Infirmary, and a Battery next to the EVA Airlock:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 12 Sector 2 Infirmary

It'll take a little while for your Workers to grab up the Alloy laying around and complete this next wave of Building.

For the moment, let's send another Probe on its way:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 13 Valiant 71 Probe

This will unlock Valiant 71, which we will get to shortly. Send a Science Ship over there as soon as the Probe unlocks the location.

Set one Stockpile to Alloy, one to Polymer, one to Electronics, and one to Food. When they're finished, demolish the old Stockpiles and old Infirmary.

Around this time, you may get a request to shut down the Factories in Sector 1 for a short time. That means you'll have to turn off your Steel Mill, Polymer Refinery, and Tech Lab. You can choose to do it or not, but I haven't noticed any negative consequences for not doing it.

Valiant 71 and More Sector 2 Renovations

Now, let's tackle Valiant 71. Valiant 71 doesn't have much of interest, but it does have a ship in orbit and 15 Science available for collection. Once you get a Science Ship in orbit, you'll have a choice between four options.

  • Recover materials from the Huizinga. (3 Cycles)
    • Result - 83 Alloy, all choices except "Leave the planet" disabled.
  • Attempt to recover the closest Cryopods. (2 Cycles)
    • Result - 25 Cryonic Pods, all choices except "Leave the planet" disabled.
  • Attempt to recover all the Cryopods. (3 Cycles)
    • Result - 5 Crew killed, Science Ship destroyed, all other choices disabled.
  • Analyze the wreck of the Huizinga. (3 Cycles)
    • Result - 15 Science, Firestarter upgrade unlocked for Workshop, all other choices disabled.

Selecting "recover the materials from the Huizinga" will cause all of the Cryo Pods to burn up, giving you only one option.

  • Leave the planet.
    • Disables all other choices.

You should pick "Analyze the wreck of the Huizinga." 15 Science isn't much, but the Firestarter upgrade reduces the Trust penalty from overloads at the Workshop.

Alternatively, players who are short on Crew should take "Attempt to recover the closest Cryopods." 25 Cryonic Pods isn't much, either, but it's better than 0 if you're running low on manpower.

Next, we're gonna send out another Probe -- this time, we're looking for Ice:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 14 Ice

Remember to set one of your existing Stockpiles to Ice in Sector 1! You're probably running a little low on resources right now, but we'll bounce back before we know it.

Back over at Sector 2, it's time to do some reorganizing. We're going to build copies of all of our existing Buildings so we can demolish the temporary ones. Build a Workshop, Mess Hall, and two Optimized Quarter here:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 15 Moving Temporary Buildings

Make sure to clean up any extraneous Roads in Sector 2. Wait for these to finish, and then dismantle the old ones when these are completed.

Pop over to the Tech Lab. We're going to focus on making Sector 2 a major producer of Food -- it's time to research Fusion Station.

Take some time and wait for the Fusion Station Research to be completed. We're a little bottlenecked right now, and the time can be used to wake up more people at the Cryonics Center.

Build another Storage - Small here, and set it to Ice so we can start storing this new material:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 16 Another Storage

Make sure to set the Resource Export/Import so that any of the Ice coming into Sector 1 ends up in Sector 2 where it belongs.

These new constructions are making our Power requirements a little right. We're gonna invest some of that Polymer and Electronics we have stocked up and add some more Solar Panels. Build one Medium Solar Panel 3 in the Tiqqun Exterior View (F2).

As soon as the Fusion Station Research is done, immediately move on to Researching "Crop Farm." This will be the backbone of our new Food production. Then, place the Fusion Station:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 17 Fusion Station

It'll take a little time for this to be completed.

By now, you may be running the risk of homelessness for some of your people. We're going to build some housing over at the far end of Sector 2 on the space side:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 18 More Sector 2 Housing

Make sure to demolish the 2 temporary Optimized Quarters when the new one is finished!

With that completed, we're going to build a Crop Farm right next to the Fusion Station:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 19 Crop Farm

It'll take a short amount of time for it to be constructed.

Once this Building is finished, it's time to place down the actual Crop Fields. Bear in mind that placing these Fields will take a fair amount of Alloy!

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 20 Crop Fields

It's a little rough, but it's enough to get the job done. And besides, we're in a big ol' spaceship -- we need to try to make the best use of the space as we can.

The addition of this Farm will barely stabilize our Food production for the moment. We're also going to build an Alternative Life Center to better Stabilize Sector 2.

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 21 Sector 2 Alternative Life Center

At this point, we're running the risk of running out of Alloy. Let's increase the efficiency of the Steel Mill by Researching "Alloy Development."

It's also a good idea to send out another Probe to find some more Iron:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 22 Another Iron Probe

Sector 2 will soon start producing a bucketload of Food -- more than enough for your Crew and with plenty left over.

Before we continue, we're going to set aside some space for a second Crop Farm later on down the line:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 23 Space for Another Crop Farm

Don't build the Crop Farm just yet, though -- we still need to conserve Alloy for hull repairs and the like.

Start Researching "Waste Treatment Center" in Tier 3; we'll be Building this in a little while.

Renovating Sector 1

Speaking of conservation, it's high time we dial back some of the excesses of Sector 1. Namely, we won't be needing as much Food Production there anymore, so we're going to dismantle 3 Insect Farms in Sector 1 and replace them with 5 Storage - Small and a Workshop:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 24 Dismantle Insect Farms

As always, it will take some time for these to be constructed, especially with the ongoing Hull Integrity repairs sucking up so much Alloy. Set 2 of these to Iron (Fe), 1 to Silicon, 1 to Ice, and 1 to Cryonics Pods.

Don't forget to ensure that there is a good balance of Food being sent in either direction via Resource Management. This is the first step of gradually shifting Food production from Sector 1 to Sector 2 permanently.

Once you've placed the Stockpile - Small down, we're going to go ahead and send off another Probe:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 25 Perenti 85 Probe

This Probe will reveal Perenti 85. We won't be able to visit it until we Research the "Dive Apparatus" Technology on the Science Ship icon, but we're going to hold off on that for the moment.

We're going to start having Power problems soon, so we're going to need to build the second Medium Solar Panel 3.

Once the new Workshop and 5 Stockpiles are finished, we're going to dismantle the original Workshop in Sector 1 and three of the four Stockpile - Smalls next to it:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 26 Sector 1 Dismantling Storage

Leave the last one in place; this will continue to be our Food storage.

Now, pop on over to Sector 2 and build 2 Insect Farms here:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 27 Sector 2 Insect Farms

Go back to Sector 1 and remove the remaining 3 Insect Farms in that location.

Pop out to the Planetary System Map (F3) and send a Probe to this location:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 28 Fargo 39 Probe

This will reveal Fargo 39, another location that we'll need to visit for our objective in Chapter 2.

Wait for the Insect Farms and the old Stockpile - Smalls to be removed. Once they're gone, we're going to put a Waste Treatment Center and an Electronics Factory in their place:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 29 Waste Treatment Center and Electronics Factory

This will take a fair amount of Alloy to construct these two Buildings, but they'll pay for themselves in spades. The Electronics Factory makes Electronics from Silicon, and the Waste Treatment Center can convert Waste into useful resources such as Alloy.

Now, we're going to send out one more Probe:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 30 Mack R Probe

This will unlock Mack R, the final location we need to visit for our objective. It will also allow us to collect a fair chunk of Science.

Power down the Electronics Factory and Waste Treatment Centers when they're done Building -- we can't make use of them just yet.

Next, start Researching "DLS Center." You'll need this to take advantage of the Waste Treatment Center.

Launch another Probe here:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 31 Deville 59 Probe

This will unlock Deville 59, a candidate for Colonization. As with the other planets, we'll get to this later.

Exploring Mack R

Now, let's tackle Mack R. Mack R has 15 Science available by default. This is one of the locations where you'll find Traces of the Protagoras. You'll find four choices available when you reach the planet with a Science Ship:

  • Thaw the ice by venting the [Science Ship's] fuel cells. (4 Cycles)
    • Result - 60 Science, High-quality Lubricants upgrade unlocked for Workshop, all options except for modified "Leave the planet" disabled.
  • Drill through the ice and investigate the wreck using a borescope. (4 Cycles)
    • Result - 60 Science, all other choices except "Leave the planet" disabled.
  • Set up excavation equipment. (10 Alloy, 4 Cycles, 1 Science Ship)
    • Result - 45 Polymer, 45 Science, High-quality Lubricants upgrade unlocked for Workshop, all other choices except "Leave the planet" disabled.
  • Leave the planet.
    • Result - Disables the other choices.

If you pick "Thaw the ice by venting the [Science Ship's] fuel cells, you'll have a modified "Leave the planet" choice:

  • Leave the planet.
    • Result - 617 Ice, new choices

The Science Ship is stuck in the ice. You now also have another choice to make:

  • Abandon the [Science Ship] and declare its crew lost.
    • Result - 5 Crew Members lost, Science Ship lost, 25% Trust Penalty
  • Naomi Protocol: send a team to rescue the [Science Ship's] crew and destroy compromising mission reports. (1 Cycle. 1 Cargo Ship)
    • Result - 5 Crew recovered, 10% Trust Bonus, Science Ship lost

You should pick the "Set up excavation equipment" option. You don't get as much Science, but thawing the ice results in the loss of a Science Ship (although, thankfully, not the Crew) and the need for a rescue mission.

Time to fire off another Probe -- we're finally gonna get us some Silicon:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 32 Silicon Asteroid

This will allow us to start stockpiling Silicon for the eventual production of Electronics.

Build another Stockpile - Small in Sector 2; this will be used to store additional Food. We don't want all of those Crop Farms to go to waste!

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 33 Sector 2 More Food Storage

By now, the DLS Center Research should be complete. It's time to do some more Research -- we're going to "Tell Them What They Need to Hear" on the EVA Airlock; this will increase the efficiency of the EVA Airlock by 10%.

Go over to Sector 1 and build a new Optimized Quarter between the Tech Lab and the Waste Treatment Center:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 34 Another Optimized Quarter

We're going to have to do a little shuffling around to install the DLS Center.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

As soon as the new Optimized Quarter is finished, deconstruct these two Optimized Quarters and replace them with the DLS Center:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 35 Sector 1 DLS Center

Use the DLS Center to set the Waste to "Waste Recycling." This will reduce Stability by 1, but it will also allow you to start bringing in more Alloy.

Turn the Power on at the Waste Recycling Center and set it to produce Alloy. Convert one of the Cryonic Pod Stockpile - Smalls to Waste, since you need a Stockpile active to take advantage of the Waste.

Next, Research "Exoskeletons" at the Science Ship in the Tech Lab. This will allow a Science Ship to land on Fargo 39.

When the next DLS Center Policy is available, set Propaganda to "Intense." It will make you wait 15 Cycles instead of 10 Cycles to change your Policies, but it will give you a valuable +1 Stability.

Build another 3 Optimized Quarters in Sector 2 to accommodate your growing population:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 36 3 More Optimized Quarters

At this point, go to the Tiqqun Exterior View (F2) and construct a Medium Solar Panel 4. This will give us enough Power to turn on everything in Sector 1 once again.

When "Exoskeletons" is done researching, it's time to take care of Fargo 39.

Fargo 39

Fargo 39 has an option that requires the "Exoskeletons" Technology on the Science Ship. The best choice at this Point of Interest requires Exoskeletons, so make sure you complete that particular piece of Research.

This planet is also necessary for completing "The Protagoras" objective, along with 15 Science available right away.

Here are your options:

  • Deploy the entire crew in reinforced exoskeletons. (4 Cycles, requires "Exoskeletons" technology.)
    • Result - Unlocks new choices.
  • Send a small team of specialists to the signal's location. (3 Cycles)
    • Result - Unlocks a new choice.
  • Send all of the [Science Ship's] Crew to the signal's location. (4 Cycles)
    • Result - Unlocks new choices.
  • Send an experienced scout to the signal's location. (2 Cycles)
    • Result - Unlocks one new choice.

Choosing "Deploy the entire crew in reinforced skeletons" gives you three options:

  • Recover archived digital data from the cargo ship and return to the [Science Ship]. (3 Cycles)
    • Result - 15 Science, disables other choices
  • Survey the Cargo Ship, recover any archived data and return to the [Science Ship] (4 Cycles).
    • Result - 30 Science, disables other choices
  • Recover data from the cargo ship and attempt EKP repair for cargo recovery. (5 Cycles)
    • Result - 40 Cryonic Pods, 30 Science, other choices disabled

If you instead choose "Send a small team of specialists to the signal's location" will unlock a new option that you have to take:

  • Recover archived digital data from the cargo ship and return to the [Science Ship.]" (3 Cycles)
    • Result - 1 Crew Member lost

Selecting "Send all of the [Science Ship's] Crew to the signal's location" will unlock two new options:

  • Survey the cargo ship, recover any archived data and return to the [Science Ship.] (4 Cycles)
    • Result - 30 Science, all other choices disabled.
  • Recover archived digital data from the cargo ship and return to the [Science Ship.] (3 Cycles)
    • Result - 1 Crew Member lost, all other choices disabled.

Selecting "Send an experienced scout to the signal's location" will unlock one option:

  • Recover archived digital data from the cargo ship and return to the [Science Ship.] (3 Cycles)
    • Result - 1 Crew Member lost.

As you can see, your best option for Fargo 39 is to have Exoskeletons Researched on the Science Ship. Select "Deploy the entire crew in reinforced exoskeletons" and then "Recover data from the cargo ship and attempt EKP repair for cargo recovery." to get a total of 40 Cryonic Pods and 30 Science, plus the 15 Science available by default. This will also advance your objective "The Protagoras" by 1.

Further Improving Sector 2

Our next move is to buff up the Stability of Sector 2 a bit by building its own DLS Center and a Lunaclysm Memorial. Remember -- if you don't have your first Medium Solar Panel 4 constructed, Build it now!

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 37 Sector 2 DLS and Lunaclysm Memorial

Next, we're going to do some more Research. Research "Intelligent Lab" at the Tech Lab icon in the Tech Tree to buff the incoming Research to 5 Science per 5 Cycles.

Once you've finished exploring enough Planets for "The Protagoras" objective, you'll get a notification that you can send out a Probe to find the ship itself. Here's the location you'll be looking to send a Probe:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 38 Protagoras Location

Next, Research "Deep Dive Apparatus" at the Science Ship icon in the Tech Lab. This will allow us to visit some more planets. Critically, it will give us a stepping stone to getting even more Research.

Make sure to set Propaganda to "Intense" at the Sector 2 DLS. That will give you an immediate benefit.

If you are running low on Iron at this point, you can find more just behind Perenti 85:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 39 More Iron Perenti 85

By now, you should know how to launch a Probe, so I'm going to stop directing you where to send Probes for resources. Search around the area at your own discretion when you're running low on something.

Perenti 85

Speaking of Perenti 85, we're going to be traveling there next with a Science Ship. Visiting Perenti 85 requires the Deep Dive Apparatus Research, so make sure you have that done first.

Perenti 85 has 30 Science available right from the get-go. In addition, these are the options that are available:

  • Release micro-probes into the atmosphere. (20 Polymer, 2 Cycles, 1 Cargo Ship)
    • Result - 45 Science, all options except "Leave the planet" disabled.
  • Establish a weather station. (30 Alloy, 3 Cycles, 1 Cargo Ship)
    • Result - 60 Science, all options except "Leave the planet" disabled.
  • Set up advanced infrastructure for meteorological analysis and simulation. (60 Alloy, 4 Cycles, 1 Cargo Ship.)
    • Result - 75 Science, all options except "Leave the planet" disabled.
  • Leave Perenti 85.
    • Result - Disables all other choices.

Your best option is "Set up advanced infrastructure for meteorological analysis and simulation." Getting more Science is always good. This will give you a total of 105 Science, and we're going to invest that in just a moment.

Sector 2 and Cryonic Pods

Our next step is to further expand our housing -- the goal is to get our Cryonic Pods down to 0 before we get in too deep on completing the Chapter 2 objective:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 40 More Sector 2 Housing

Next, we're going to research "Colonization Training Center" in the Tech Tree. This will allow us to convert non-workers into Colonists.

Send a Science Ship over to the Protagoras. You will only have a single option available:

  • Drill through the ice. (5 Cycles)
    • Result - Protagoras Diagnostic Analysis technology, 60 Science, 950 Cryonic Pods.

You may recognize the fact that 950 friggin' Cryonic Pods is a lot. We're going to need to stuff them somewhere before we leave the Immortan System.

It's time for another round of Building, and this one is gonna be a doozy. We're going to Build the Colonization Training Center in Sector 2 along with 8 new Stockpile - Small:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 41 Colonization Training Center

Unfortunately, we're just plum out of room -- we're going to need to borrow some of the space intended for our second batch of Crop Farms. We'll get it back when we open up Sector 3 in the future.

Make sure to set one of your Cargo Ships to exclusively transport Cryonic Pods -- it's going to take a hell of a lot of time to get them over to the Tiqqun.

Research "Shaping Worker Behavior" at the EVA Airlock in the Tech Tree to make the EVA Airlock even more efficient at repairing the Hull Integrity.

Follow that up with Researching "Reorganization of Care" at the Infirmary in the Tech Tree, then "Advanced Logistics" in the Mess Hall and "Additional Beds" in the Crew Quarters. These three Research items will increase the capacity of your Infirmaries, Mess Halls, and housing, respectively.

Next, we'll need to train 15 Colonists at the Colonization Training Center:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 42 Training Colonists

Repeat this three more times, for a total of 60 Colonists. While we can complete the objective with fewer, it'll be handy to have more Colonists available in future Chapters.

We're gonna have to wait for a bit for this training to complete, so focus on completing Research and gathering the resources you need to keep up with production and keep the ship online. You may also need to build another Solar Panel upgrade if your Power is running low, so take care of that now.

Let's also take a moment to dismantle one of our Mining Ships and replace it with a third Cargo Ship. We're going to need the extra transport capabilities for the moment.

Go to the Tech Lab and Research "Accelerated Growth" for the Crop Farm. We're also going to build a second Crop Farm now, to ensure that we keep up with our Food needs:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 43 Second Crop Farm

We'll only have enough room for 6 of the intended 9 Crop Fields, but those 6 Crop Fields -- combined with the "Accelerated Growth" Research -- will give us a much-needed boost to our Food production for the near future. (Don't forget to ensure that you have enough Ice coming in to supply the Crop Fields with water!)

Colonizing Deville 59

Once you have 60 Colonists, send a Science Ship up to Deville 59 -- it's time to get started with our little Colonization experiment. Once you get there, you'll have three options available:

  • Establish basic Nyokond Colony infrastructure. (40 Alloy, 30 Food, 30 Colonists, 3 Cycles, 1 Cargo Ship).
    • Result - Establishes basic colony, new choices, and 15 Science after some time passes.
  • Establish advanced Nyokond Colony infrastructure. (60 Alloy, 60 Food, 60 Colonists, 4 Cycles, 1 Cargo Ship).
    • Result - Establishes advanced colony, new choices after some time passes.
  • Leave the planet and return late.
    • Result - Leaves the planet, allowing you to come back later.

Choose "Establish advanced Nyokond Colony infrastructure." The cost is higher, but it appears to provide a greater benefit as far as I can tell. (Either way, we'll have a need for more Colonists in the future.)

Remember, you'll need to move 60 Colonists from Sector 2 to Sector 1 with Population Management. Otherwise, the ship that's ferrying them will simply sit in the Dock waiting around forever.

Reaching the Protagoras

Make sure to Research "Protagoras Diagnostic Analysis," too, in order to get the final objective unlocked.

Once the Protagoras Diagnostic Analysis Research is complete, you'll have four objectives to "Save the Protagoras."

  • Repair the superstructure
  • Provide resources to support the Protagoras' crew
  • Mine the ice trapping the Protagoras (0/388)
  • Research Retractable Telescopic Pole technology to allow the Tiqqun to connect to the Protagoras. (0%)
  • Re-boot the Protagoras' core systems

Send a Science Ship over to the Protagoras and you'll have two choices for a Science Ship to go through:

  • Repair the superstructure of the Protagoras. (100 Alloy, 60 Polymer, 3 Cycles, 1 Cargo Ship, Tiqqun docked with the Protagoras)
    • Result - New choice.
  • Re-establish internal infrastructure and food distribution. (100 Alloy, 100 Food, 2 Cycles, 1 Cargo Ship).
    • Result - 50 Workers and 200 Non-Workers join the Tiqqun

It is at this point I'd advise moving Ixion to Deville 59, and not directly next to the Protagoras. Here's why:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 44 Immortan Star Ice Cloud

See that big cloud coming out of the Immortan star? That's ice, and it messes up Ixion's external systems something fierce.

You can count on losing at least one or two solar panels when you fly through it, so you're gonna want to minimize your contact with this zone. Flying to Deville 59 will bypass most of it:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 45 Tiqqun Deville 59

We don't want to get the Tiqqun moving just yet, though. While we constructed two Batteries in Sector 1 back in the Chapter 1 Walkthrough, we've only Built one Battery in Sector 02.

Let's fix that -- Build a second Battery here:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 46 Sector 2 Second Battery

This second Battery will help ensure that the Tiqqun has enough power to make the move to Deville 59. If need be, temporarily shut down whatever Buildings you need to in order to conserve Power.

You may have some extra Science built up, too. It may be wise to invest some of that Science in Battery capacity or the Tiqqun's engine speed to help make the journey a little less perilous.

Finally, consider consolidating some of your housing and replacing it with Stability-granting Buildings as needed. Don't forget that you can change policies at the DLS Center to provide further Stability, too.

Return of the Colonists

While you're working on this, your Colonists will want to return home. Regardless of which colony you've chosen, you'll have two choices:

  • Repatriate the Colonists. (2 Cycles)
    • Result - 30 Colonists, new objective to "Repatriate the Colonists."
  • Sever communications with the Colonists.
    • Result - Trust Penalty 10%, lose access to 30 Colonists.

It's best to get the Tiqqun moving to Deville 59 before you attempt to retrieve the Colonists -- while the Tiqqun will take a beating (and you may lose some Trust from potential Power losses), you'll save time thanks to shorter trips for the Cargo Ships. Additionally, you can send out Probes to find a whole bunch of useful resources in the ice cloud near the Protagoras.

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 47 Tiqqun in the Ice

Once you've reached Deville 59, your priority should be to stabilize the Tiqqun and gather as many resources as you can. You'll also want to make sure you have room for another 250 people, because some people from the Protagoras will want to join you on your mission before you leave the system forever.

Finishing Up at the Protagoras

Now, it's time to resolve those Science Ship missions at the Protagoras. Here's a reminder of what they were:

  • Repair the superstructure of the Protagoras. (100 Alloy, 60 Polymer, 3 Cycles, 1 Cargo Ship, Tiqqun docked with the Protagoras)
    • Result - New choice.
  • Re-establish internal infrastructure and food distribution. (100 Alloy, 100 Food, 2 Cycles, 1 Cargo Ship).
    • Result - 50 Workers and 200 Non-Workers join the Tiqqun

Completing "Re-establish internal infrastructure and food distribution" will open up a new option:

  • Naomi Protocol: Meet the Elders. (3 Cycles)
    • Result - 2 Crew Members leave the Tiqqun

Meeting the Elders will result in the loss of 2 Science Ship members, which may break any promises you've made about not losing Crew from Science Ships.

We're at the tail end of Chapter 2 now. Your next major objective is to transfer 50 Workers and 200 Non-Workers from the Protagoras to the Tiqqun. Make sure you have room for them and house them as best you can. It's a good idea to dedicate one of your three Cargo Ships solely to moving Crew.

While this is ongoing, you'll have a new set of choices to make at the Protagoras:

  • Install a copy of Edden. (5 Cycles)
    • Result - Nothing, other choices disabled
  • Naomi Protocol: Save a copy of the Protagoras' P.A. (5 Cycles)
    • Result - 60 Science, other choices disabled
  • Leave the Protagoras.
    • Result - Disables other choices.

Completing this objective will allow you to leave the system, but let's not get moving just yet -- there are a few more Points of Interest to explore.

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 48 Rokatansky D79

The Last Points of Interest

Rokatansky D79 has 30 Science immediately available. Once you arrive, this planet has four choices available:

  • Use explosives to clear a path. (1 Cycle)
    • Result - 5 Crew Members killed, Science Ship Destroyed, 10% Trust Penalty, Rokatansky D79 destroyed, new Request, other choices disabled
  • Set up a temporary study center. (25 Alloy, 3 Cycles, 1 Cargo Ship)
    • Result - 30 Science, all choices except for "Leave the planet" removed.
  • Establish infrastructure to support exploration and geological analysis. (50 Alloy, 4 Cycles, 1 Cargo Ship)
    • Result - 45 Science, Post-decryonization Treatment upgrade unlocked for Cryonics Center, new options.
  • Leave the planet. (1 Cycle)
    • Result - Crew mysteriously replaced with other humans, new choices.

Selecting "Establish infrastructure to support exploration and geological analysis" will open up two new options:

  • Descend to the cavity and study the sphere. (4 Cycles)
    • Result - 5 Crew Members killed, Science Ship Destroyed, Rokatansky D79 destroyed, new Request, other choices disabled
  • Leave the Planet. (1 Cycle).
    • Result - Crew mysteriously replaced with other humans, new choices.

Choosing "Leave the planet," regardless of whatever previous choices you've made,  will give you two new choices:

Remotely initiate the [Science Ship's] self-destruct sequence. (2 Cycles)
Result - All Crew killed, Science Ship destroyed, -10% Trust Penalty, new Request
Naomi Protocol: Update the TIqqun's crew manifest to include the new biometric data.
Result - Crew renamed, new Request, other choices disabled.

Destroying the ship will result in a lost ship and a Request at a housing building for you to promise that no more Science Ships will be destroyed.

Your best choice for Rokatansky D79 is to pick "Establish infrastructure to support exploration and geological analysis" and then "Leave the Planet." While the Crew will be replaced with different people (somehow), you'll gain 45 Science (on top of the 30 Science you get from the planet by default) and unlock new Research for the Cryonics Center.

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 49 Chevy 34

Chevy 34 is in a difficult position relative to your starting location -- a space storm is between the Tiqqun and that location, and any Probes or Ships you send there will be destroyed in the storm. Therefore, it is important that you fly the Tiqqun to Rokatansky D79 first in order to gain better angles for Ship and Probe trajectories. On the upside, it has 15 Science available immediately.

Additionally, Chevy 34 requires the "Deep Dive Apparatus" Reserach for the Science Ship. You won't be able to explore this location without it, so make sure you Research that beforehand.

Here are the options you'll have available:

  • Perform intrusive analysis. (1 Cycle)
    • Result - 30 Science, all options except "Leave the planet" disabled.
  • Set up a temporary study center. (30 Alloy, 3 Cycles, 1 Cargo Ship)
    • Result - 45 Science, all options except "Leave the planet" disabled.
  • Establish infrastructure to support exploration and geological analysis. (50 Alloy, 4 Cycles, 1 Cargo Ship)
    • Result - 60 Science, all options except "Leave the planet" disabled.
  • Leave the planet.
    • Result - 15 Science,  two new choices.

If you select "Leave the planet," you'll get two new options:

  • Investigate the report. (1 Cycle)
    • Result - Nothing, all options except "Leave the planet" disabled.
  • Leave the planet.
    • Result - Leave the planet, all other choices disabled.

As elsewhere, there is value in establishing infrastructure properly -- spending the 50 Alloy will get you an additional 30 Science, and that's invaluable for Research.

Your best option is to "Establish infrastructure to support exploration and geological analysis" and follow that up with "Leave the planet."

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 50 Plymouth 37

Like most of this sector, Plymouth 37 has some Science available right away -- 15 Science can be snapped up whenever a Science Ship is parked in orbit.

As for your choices, here they are:

  • Perform intrusive analysis. (1 Cycle)
    • Result - 30 Science, all choices except for "Leave the planet" disabled.
  • Set up a temporary study center. (20 Alloy, 3 Cycles, 1 Cargo Ship.)
    • Result - 45 Science, all choices except for "Leave the planet" disabled.
  • Establish infrastructure to support exploration and geological analysis. (40 Alloy, 4 Cycles, 1 Cargo Ship.)
    • Result - 60 Science, all choices except for "Leave the planet" disabled.
  • Leave the planet.
    • Result - 60 Carbon, new choices available.

If you pick "Leave the planet," you'll get two new options:

  • Investigate the geological formation. (2 Cycles)
    • Result - Nothing, disables other choices except for "Leave the planet."
  • Leave the planet.
    • Result - Disables other choices.

Plymouth 37 is a fairly straightforward Point of Interest. Pick "Establish infrastructure to support exploration and geological analysis" to get 60 Science, plus the 60 Carbon from leaving and the 15 Science available at the planet by default.

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 51 Tatra V8

Tatra V8 requires the Deep Dive Apparatus Research at the Science Ship. Once you have that Researched, you'll have three options available to you:

  • Get close to the cargo ship. (2 Cycles)
    • Result - Unlocks 2 new choices.
  • Hail the cargo ship. (2 Cycles)
    • Result - Unlocks 2 new choices.
  • Leave the planet.
    • Result - Disables other choices.

Picking "Get close to the cargo ship" or "Hail the cargo ship" opens up 2 new choices:

  • Board the Cargo Ship. (2 Cycles)
    • Result - Trust Penalty 10, 2 Crew Members killed, new choices
  • Ram the Cargo Ship to force an emergency landing. (3 Cycles)
    • Result - 5 Crew Members killed, Science Ship destroyed, 10% Trust Penalty

Choosing "Board the Cargo Ship" will open up another 2 choices:

  • Naomi Protocol: Interrogate the P.A. (2 Cycles)
    • Result - Nothing
  • Recover the Cargo Ship and disconnect the P.A. (3 Cycles)
    • Result - New Cargo Ship

Ultimately, Tatra V8 will only give you a Cargo Ship, and any round you take will result in the death of Crew. This is a heavy penalty for something that you can easily build, so you should leave this location alone save for the 15 Research.

It's up to you whether or not it's worth exploring these Points of Interest. That said, it's worth it to spend some time mining in the Immortan System, so you may as well maximize the potential for Science and other resources.

Expanding to Sector 3

We have one last piece of preparation to do before heading on to Chapter 3 -- it's time to crack open Sector 3.

The addition of hundreds of Cryonic Pods brings with it a severe Stability penalty. Every 250 unopened Cryonic Pods reduces your Stability by 1, so you can have as much as -4 Stability. Unfortunately, we don't really have the space for them just yet.

Aside from opening Sector 3, we'll need to do some quick renovations on Sectors 1 and 2. Here's what Sector 1 looked like for me at the end of Chapter 2:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 52 End of Chapter 2 Sector 1

Some of the Optimized Quarters have been replaced with Domotic Quarters. Furthermore, I've opened up a small area in preparation for adding another Stability-enhancing Building when it's needed.

Here's Sector 2:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 53 End of Chapter 2 Sector 2

The Crop Farms finally have all of their fields as planned. I've also increased the Food Storage significantly, making Sector 2 the breadbasket of the ship.

That leaves just one question -- what happened to all of those Cryonic Pods? At this point, I have over 900 of them, and none of them are in this picture. Instead, they're in Sector 3:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 54 End of Chapter 2 Sector 3

Sector 3 has more or less become my "Cryonics Center." By the end of Chapter 2, it features two Domotic Quarters, a Docking Bay, an EVA Airlock, and a heck of a lot of Storage. While there is Storage for all of the standard resources (Food, Alloy, Polymer, and Electronics), the majority of the Storage is dedicated to Cryonic Pods.

As for the massive amount of Stability-enhancing Buildings, those are here to support one particular Policy at the DLS Center:

Ixion Chapter 2 Walkthrough - 55 Cryopod Policy

The "Only Workers" Cryopod Awakening Policy is exactly what it says on the tin: Non-Workers will not be awoken from Cryonic Pods. This policy, unfortunately, causes a pretty hefty -3 Stability penalty. The plethora of Stability Buildings in Sector 3 offsets that, allowing you to dedicate Sector 3 to storing Cryonic Pods and getting a fresh injection of Workers wherever they're needed.

The EVA Airlock in Sector 3 may not be needed just yet depending on what you've Researched, but it provides an additional option for enhanced repair if you need it. As for the Docking Bay, this will allow us to support another 3 Ships.

Sector 1 handles Industry and (most) space travel, Sector 2 takes care of Food, and Sector 3 takes care of the population. There are still 3 more Sectors that can be opened, but that can wait until Chapter 3.

For now, you have what you need to truly transform, the Tiqqun into whatever you want. You could even open up a fourth Sector and spend some time moving everything around until you have everything just right. It may take you some time, but it'll be worth it.
