Today Bandai Namco had a new trailer, new gameplay footage, and new details about its upcoming JRPG Sword Art Online: Last Recollection.

First of all, we get the new story trailer, showcasing the many characters we'll meet in the game. It also includes a special treat. In the War of Underworld arc of the anime, Asuna, Sinon, and Leafa take on the avatar of three goddesses, Stacia, Solus e Terraria. In the game Lisbeth and Silica will also get their own goddess avatars, respectively the goddess of fire Ignia and the goddess of the wind Aeria.

On top of the trailer, we also get to see gameplay, broadcasted during a special livestream from Japan. Specifically, we take a look at exploration and traversa on top of battle gameplay

Incidentally, we also heard during the same livestream that a demo will be coming, albeit no further details were shared.

You can check the trailer out below.

The accompanying press release also came with beautiful character design artwork for Lisbeth/Ignia and Silica/Aeria. Alongside the new key artwork that you see at the top of the post, they were created by the light novels' illustrator abec.

In case you missed the original announcement made back in November, the game is a retelling of the Sword Art Online Alicization: War of Underworld arc of the anime and is set in the Dark Territory of Underworld. It will also serve as a sequel to Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris.

Sword Art Online Last Recollection is coming for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC on October 6, 2023. If you want to see more, you can take a look at the previous story trailer. The game will feature over 40 playable characters and promises "MMO-like multiplayer" and "the largest number of unique endings" ever featured in the long-running Sword Art Online series.
