Bandai Namco has announced Sword Art Online Last Recollection, a new game that will conclude the story arc which began with 2013's Sword Art Online Infinity Moment. It'll once again follow series protagonist Kirito as he attempts to stop an oncoming war from sweeping across the virtual world.

It's been ten years since the first Sword Art Online game Infinity Moment launched, and to celebrate that tenth anniversary, Bandai Namco is including more characters and episodes in Last Recollection than any previous franchise game has boasted. All that's missing is the VR helmet that actually kills you if you use it to play this game, but hey, Palmer Luckey is working on that.

Sword Art Online Last Recollection begins as Kirito and his friends enter the Underworld, where war is brewing between the Human Realm and the Dark Territory. The Alicization Project is coming to a head, so it's up to Kirito to stop brutal war from erupting. The stakes, as you can imagine, are high.

Sword Art Online Last Recollection will feature the largest cast of characters in any Sword Art Online game.

As with previous games in the series, Sword Art Online Last Recollection will boast fast, fluid melee combat, and there'll also be co-op support for up to four players, so you won't need to journey through the Underworld alone. Along the way, you can expect all the same high anime melodrama that characterizes Sword Art Online. In short, if you're a fan of previous games, you'll probably like this one too.

Sword Art Online Last Recollection launches in 2023 for PlayStation consoles, Xbox platforms, and PC. A Nintendo Switch release for the game doesn't appear to be on the cards right now, unfortunately. The theme song will be performed by ReoNa, who's also responsible for the War of Underworld anime theme and the Alicization Lycoris theme.
