Bandai Namco announced a new character that will join the cast of Sword Art Online Last Recollection, and it's someone who many thought was lost forever; Yuuki Konno.
Yet, she's back, and if I said that it didn't strike me right in the feels, I'd be lying. Yuuki Konno will return in the newest game of the series with the super account of Sword Goddess Gladia, which is certainly appropriate.
If you're unfamiliar with Sword Art Online's story you may be wondering what the big deal is. You see, Yuuki is dead.
The beloved character voiced by Aoi Yuuki was affected by a terminal illness in one of the most relevant arcs of the second season of the anime.
She logged into virtual MMORPGs as a form of palliative care, and she passed away peacefully in Asuna's arms and surrounded by her friends in one of the most heart-wrenching episodes of the whole story.
Fans have been wondering whether she would return in some form, and here she is, as you can see in the trailer below.
The circumstances of her return have not been yet explained, but we'll probably hear more as we play the game. It's also likely that she'll be the last secret character featured in the "Ritual of Bonds" DLC.
Perhaps a bit less poignant for veteran fans, today we also get the reveal of Mito from Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night.
Last, but not least, we get to see the opening cutscene, heavily featuring new heroine Dorothy, because Kirito can't even have enough waifus.
And yes, Yuuki also makes an appearance.
Sword Art Online Last Recollection releases on October 6, 2023, for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
It's the direct sequel of Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris and it's a new take on the story told in the last season of the anime Sword Art Online Alicization: War of Underworld, and it features a metric ton of playable characters, plus two as of today.
