Poketpair's Palworld definitely features a very different take on the Pokemon formula, and the latest trailer certainly showcases that in plain sight.
The trailer is part of the "Paldeck" series that features the various Pokem... ahem... Pals, and showcases Dinossom, which aptly looks like a dinosaur with a giant blossom on its head.
Yet, we get to see some things that will likely feel particularly unholy to many Pokemon fans. By now, we have seen the pals being shot, but this time around we see the player picking up Palworld's equivalent of a Flareon and using it like a handheld flamethrower. After that, we see our Dinossom, finally captured working on what appears to be a gunsmithing table.
This is not criticism, mind you. Palworld certainly looks interesting, but it's hard not to feel a bit weird (in a funny way) about seeing what looks and look like Pokemon in the same picture as firearms, or even used as such.
You can see what I mean below.
Going back to the specific content of the trailer, Dinossom is described as "a pal which despite its mild appearance and personality, has a tendency to go berserk when it feels threatened."
Palworld will release in early accession PC via Steam in January 2024. If you'd like to see more, you can check out another trailer, an older one, and one featuring Anubis.
