Bellanoir, the new Pal added as part of the latest Palworld update

Pocketpair has released a new Palworld update, and it's bringing the game's very first raid boss, plus tons of new content and quality-of-life improvements.

We first got wind that Bellanoir, the first raid Pal, was on its way to Pocketpair's phenomenally successful creature-collecting survival game back in March, but she's now arrived and she's ready to wreak havoc.

While you can't capture Pals from raids, you can obtain Eggs if you defeat raid bosses. You can also take on an Extreme version of Bellanoir, but Pocketpair warns that she's "incredibly powerful and difficult to defeat".

The new Palworld update should make assigning work to Pals a bit easier.

Tons of new items have been added as well, including Training Manuals to give your Pals experience points, as well as Recovery Meds items to slowly recover HP over time.

It's now possible to use the Monitoring Stand to allow or disallow certain types of work for Pals assigned to your base as well, which should make assigning work tasks easier.

If you're a cruel Palmaster, you can now also force a Pal to cancel their break and get back to work by picking them up and throwing them at a facility. Of course, Pals recover their sanity during breaks, so you probably shouldn't abuse this feature too much.

Make sure Pals get regular breaks if you want their sanity to stay relatively high.

Tons of other quality-of-life improvements and gameplay tweaks have also been implemented in this update, so make sure to read the full Palworld patch notes to get a sense of everything that's new.

If you're not familiar with Palworld, it's an open-world creature-collecting survival game that launched in Early Access back in January, meeting with huge success virtually overnight.

The game bears more than a passing resemblance to Pokemon, even seemingly prompting an official comment from The Pokemon Company, but it's a pretty different prospect gameplay-wise, focusing as it does on base-building rather than traditional turn-based RPG gameplay.

It's also much bleaker and more "mature" than Pokemon; Pals can and do wield guns, as can players, and the game also allows you to essentially enslave your Pals, as well as killing and eating them.

You can grab Palworld right now on PC via Steam Early Access. Be sure to take a look at our Palworld guides to help you get oriented in the game's adorable but surprisingly brutal world.
