There's a new Pokemon TCG expansion based on Pokemon Go on the way. To celebrate, Pokemon Go is adding new 'mons and events, including a brand new hat for Pikachu, two Pokemon never seen in Pokemon Go before, and plenty more.

What new 'mons and events are being added to Pokemon Go?

For the last few months, we've been getting more and more details about the upcoming Pokemon Go Pokemon TCG set, including a peek at its hidden Ditto cards and other exciting preview info. Now, though, it's Pokemon Go's turn to show off. The mobile augmented reality RPG is getting some new 'mons and events to celebrate the release of the TCG expansion. First up, Wimpod and Golisopod are making their Pokemon Go debut; they appear in the TCG set, so now they're making their way to Go as well. It'll take 400 Wimpod Candy to evolve it into Golisopod. There's also a snazzy new hat for Pikachu which has a Pokemon TCG logo on it.

Some of the cards in the upcoming Pokemon Go Pokemon TCG expansion
Pokemon TCG is getting a Pokemon Go expansion, and to celebrate, there are some new Pokemon Go 'mons and events.

As well as these extra 'mons, new events are also being added to Pokemon Go. You'll be able to take on six Collection Challenges across various different difficulty levels. If you manage to complete them all, you'll be awarded with XP, an Incubator, and a Lure Module. A new Five-Star Raid for Mewtwo is also being added to coincide with the TCG expansion's Mewtwo V, so be on the lookout for everyone's favorite unnerving psychic cat...clone...thing. Several wild 'mons will also have their encounter rate increased, and both Lunatone and Solrock will start appearing around the world, instead of being limited to the Eastern or Western Hemisphere as they currently are.

That's not all, though. If you pick up any of the Pokemon TCG Pokemon Go expansion cards, you'll find promo codes on them that will net you some neat avatar items in Pokemon Go. These include a hat and T-shirt combo designed to match up with Pikachu's TCG hat, so if you want to look just like your best mouse buddy, you should grab some of those cards sharpish. The promo codes will run from July 17th all the way through to 2024, so you'll have plenty of time to claim them.

When are these new Pokemon Go events being added?

Although the Pokemon Go TCG expansion doesn't launch until July, you won't have to wait that long to start checking out these new Pokemon Go events. The new 'mons and events will launch for Pokemon Go on June 16th and will run through to June 30th, so you'll have two weeks to add all this new stuff to your collection. Make sure to check out the full announcement over on the official Pokemon Go website for more info about which Pokemon will appear more frequently and other Raids that will be available.

Pokemon Scarlet, which is launching later this year
With the impending launch of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, it's a good time to be a Pokemon fan.

Pokemon is, of course, still the biggest media franchise in the world, so it should come as no surprise that these new Pokemon Go events are far from all that's in store for 'mon fans. Later this year, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will launch Generation 9 on Nintendo Switch, transitioning to a full open-world gameplay style in the wake of Pokemon Legends: Arceus. With new Pokemon Go content, a brand new TCG expansion, and lots of other stuff happening in the world of Pokemon, it's safe to say that you've got plenty to look forward to if you love the little critters. We'll bring you more on Pokemon as soon as we get it.
