Sony PlayStation's Best Place to Play Slide at CES 2024

Sony is hosting its traditional conference just before the 2024 International CES in Las Vegas. Of course, PlayStation played a part in the celebrations.

Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan did not appear, but Sony Corporation CEO Kenichiro Yoshida (who will temporarily take over for Ryan when he retires soon) talked about the PlayStation brand.

Yoshida-san mentioned that PlayStation enjoyed 123 million monthly active users in December, which is a record-high number.

He also mentioned that Sony Interactive Entertainment has been "the leader in gaming innovation for decades" and then talked about the availability of Gran Turismo Sophy in Gran Turismo 7.

Yoshida-san concluded his speech with the mention that PlayStation "continues to expand on being the best place to play by offering even greater access to gaming experiences."

During the conference, we also hear about the adaptations of PlayStation's game IP into linear media.

Sony Pictures TV Studios President Katherine Pope mentioned that "writing is underway" for both the God of War TV Show for Prime Video and the Horizon Zero Dawn TV show for Netflix.

Yoshida-san added that Sony is also excited about the adaptation of another game franchise, Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda

He added that this live-action film will "deliver an amazing tale of adventure and discovery."

Perhaps even more interestingly, we saw some imagery from the Gravity Rush movie during the presentation of the Project Torchligh virtual production tech.

The same video showcased another 3D glimpse of something related to Pataponlabeling it as "IP Development Gaming/Anime." Nothing of this was explained.

Lastly, the Sony Honda Mobility project announced a partnership with Gran Turismo developer Polyphony Digital.

We hear that by combining Polyphony's simulation technology with Sony's development expertise, the partnership focuses on incorporating human senses and emotions into development and further exploring new methods of mobility development by leveraging virtual and real-world experience.

The AFEELA Prototype 2024 car will be included with a patch in Gran Turismo 7 as a result of the partnership.
