Today Warner Bros. Games and Netherrealm Studios released a new trailer of their upcoming fighting game Mortal Kombat 1, mostly focusing on the Umgadi warriors.
The trailer reveals three new playable fighters, Li Mei, Tanya, and Baraka, and yes. I know that not all of them are Umgadi, but I didn't choose the title of the trailer. I'm just the messenger. Two Kameo fighters have also been revealed, Goro and Darrius.
We also get a look at the story behind the game, explained by Baraka himself. Apparently, the Tarkat virus plays a relevant role here. You can watch the trailer below, keeping in mind that it's as bloody as you may expect from a Mortal Kombat trailer.
Mortal Kombat 1 will release on September 19 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. If you'd like to see more, you can enjoy the original reveal, another gameplay trailer, and one focusing on the Lin Kuei.
You can also read our hands-on preview in which our Robert Scarpinito describes his time with a build of the game and the new Kameo system.
The game tells the story of an entirely different Mortal Kombat timeline focused on a universe created by Fire God Liu Kang (for instance, Mileena is a ruling princess, albeit she's still affected by the Tarkat virus, which threatens her throne).
Despite the different setting and story, which is basically a reboot for the franchise, you can expect familiar elements like brutal fighting and the inevitably gore-driven fatalities. No matter the universe, Mortal Kombat fighters will always tear each other to pieces in gore-driven fatalities.
