Mortal Kombat 1 Geras

Today Warner Bros. Games and Netherrealm Studios released a new trailer of the upcoming fighting game Mortal Kombat 1, revealing Geras.

The returning fighter is teaming up with Fire God Liu Kang, which is why the trailer is titled "Keepers of Time." Here's how the developers describe Geras directly from the press release:

Geras is an eternal being that has been reconstructed by Fire God Liu Kang, retaining the memories of the innumerable timelines he has watched pass and fade.

His unpredictable fighting style reflects his ability to manipulate the flow of time by freezing, rewinding, and replaying it to his advantage, in service of protecting Liu Kang’s vision.

Of course, you're not just going to see Geras in action in the trailer below, but also the usual ultra-brutal fatalities that characterize the series. As such, you probably shouldn't watch this at work unless your employer really enjoys gore. I suppose this may be why Netherrealm seems to have gotten into the habit of releasing its trailers on Saturday nights.

You can check out the trailer below.

Mortal Kombat 1 will launch on September 19 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. If you'd like to see more, you can enjoy the original revealanother gameplay trailerone focusing on the Lin Kuei, one showcasing the Umgadi, and one focusing on the DLC characters coming with the Kombat Pack 1 after release.

You should definitely read our hands-on preview in which our Robert Scarpinito describes his time with a demo at Summer Game Fest and the new Kameo system. The game showcases the story of an entirely different Mortal Kombat timeline focused on a universe created by Fire God Liu Kang himself, so you shouldn't be surprised to see some characters playing completely new roles.
