Today indie developer Sabotage Studio announced that its beautiful JRPG-inspired pixel art RPG Sea of Stars has passed a relevant milestone and is getting a juicy new mode.
First of all, the game has passed 5 million players, which is certainly a big deal for a small indie developer. This is a significant increase from the 4 million players announced in December 2023.
Secondly, Sea of Stars is getting local co-op multiplayer support. The new mode is called "Single Player+" and allows for three players to enjoy the game together.
While the game remains rooted in turn-based gameplay, each player will be able to do traversal and combat with a new "Co-op timed hits" mechanic.
At the moment, the mode is still in development and details are scarce. We also have no release date for the update that will include it. That being said, the developers promised more details at a later time.
Below you can check out a very brief teaser showing how characters can move separately on the screen. As usual, it's very short (Sabotage really loves short clips), but it's interesting nonetheless.

The game is a gorgeous RPG inspired by classics like Chrono Trigger showcasing spectacular levels and characters drawn in traditional pixel art (with a few technical twists that make it special) and turn-based combat.
It's set in the same world as Sabotage Studio's first critically acclaimed game, The Messenger.
Sea of Stars won the prestigious Best Independent Game trophy at The Game Awards and was among our best indie games for 2023.
