The second game shown today at Sony's State of Play presentation is Hitman 3, which showcased a new VR mode. Players will be able to step into the shoes of Agent 47 and play through the entire trilogy in VR when the third game launches on PlayStation VR in January 2021.
The cinematic announcement trailer for Hitman 3's VR mode has master assassin Agent 47 attending a fancy party full of socialites and artists. As he's about to have a drink, he spots his target and follows them into a back room, stopping only to ensure another man who passes by isn't watching. Agent 47 prepares to give the man a fiber wire strangling, and the trailer cuts out.
In a blog post on the official PlayStation blog, Travis Barbour, the Communications Manager at IO Interactive, explained a bit about what's so special about the PS VR mode for Hitman 3. For starters, this VR mode will allow players to play through the entirety of Hitman 3's story in VR mode, whether it's the Dubai skyscraper in the first mission or the "breathtaking finale." However, it's not just this one game that's getting the VR treatment; every game in the World of Assassination trilogy is getting support for PS VR, and you can "import" stages from the previous two games into Hitman 3, giving players over twenty different locations on one game. Travis ends the blog post hinting at more news for Hitman 3 in the coming months.
Hitman 3, along with its VR mode, releases sometime in January 2021 for PlayStation VR. There's no word on if other consoles will be able to take advantage of similar VR features.
