Graffiti lemur Pokemon Grafaiai has officially been unveiled in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. The 'mon was originally teased a couple of days ago via its multicolored markings, but now the Poison/Normal-type creature is getting its time in the spotlight.
What is Grafaiai in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet?
The official Pokemon Twitter account first confirmed the existence of Grafaiai on August 30th, when it revealed that the colored markings shown previously were, in fact, made by the adorable little lemur. Now, Nintendo has shared a rather endearing documentary-style video that features a nature photographer attempting to get a shot of Grafaiai. You can see that trailer right here.
In the trailer, the photographer watches carefully to see if he can spot a Grafaiai. As you'd expect, one eventually pops out of the undergrowth and begins marking a tree with its paint. The color of the paint appears to correspond to the type of berries Grafaiai is eating, although we don't yet know if that will manifest itself as an in-game mechanic yet.
As well as this video, Nintendo also uploaded another trailer showing off Grafaiai in battle. It's pretty short, but it shows Grafaiai using a Poison-type move on an enemy Jumpluff. Grafaiai's looks are probably going to be pretty polarizing, but I think it's cute, and I'll definitely be trying to find a space for it in my team.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are nearly upon us
We'll get to play Pokemon Scarlet and Violet in just a matter of months. The fully open-world games will take place in the brand new Paldea region and will allow you to pursue three different storylines, including one that lets you tackle Gyms in any order you like. Naturally, the games will feature new and returning creatures, as well as new gameplay mechanics and the ability to tackle the adventure solo or co-op.
You'll be able to get your hands on Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and thus add Grafaiai to your team, when they launch on November 18th. They've got some pretty serious creative heft behind them, too; not only are the usual Pokemon folks involved in the games' creation, but Undertale maestro Toby Fox also had a hand in creating the soundtrack. Suffice it to say I'm pretty excited.
