During the keynote of the Fan Festival currently hosted in Las Vegas, Square Enix has revealed the next expansion coming to its massively popular MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV.
The new expansion is titled "Dawntrail" and will see the Warriors of Light travel to the new world named Tural. It'll release in the summer of 2024.
It was announced via one of Square Enix's fantastic cinematic trailers showcasing all of our favorite characters, from the derplander to the rest of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn.
Traditionally, more information including the release date will be shared during the following fan festivals, which will happen in London on October 21 and 22 and in Tokyo on January 7 and January 8.
You can watch the trailer below.
We hear from Naoki Yoshida that the theme color of the expansion is gold and the expansion aims to bring us the "best summer vacation a hero could possibly have." The Japanese title is "Kogane no Legacy" which translates into Legacy of Gold.
Tural is located beyond the Indigo Deep and the Warrior of Light will be involved in the rite to decide the next rule of that land. The contest will lead to a "city of gold" and will actually divide the Scions in two opposite factions.
The overall theme is "A journey of discovery" and the expansion represents the first step into a new story for Final Fantasy XIV. Its content will be similar to a full packaged RPG.
Final Fantasy XIV is currently available for PC, PS5, and PS4. The massively popular MMORPG has recently received the major 6.4 update "The Dark Throne" and its follow-up patches. We already know that we'll hear more about update 6.5 during tomorrow's Letter from the Producer Live broadcast.
Recently, producer and director Naoki Yoshida teased the possibility of a collaboration with Final Fantasy XVI of which he is also producer. On top of that, Square Enix has recently made the third volume of the popular book series Encyclopaedia Eorzea available for pre-order.
