Today Koei Tecmo released another gameplay trailer of Omega Force's upcoming action JRPG Fate/Samurai Remnant, showcasing the Shell Gauge.
While the hero Minamoto Iori is a capable fighter trained by Miyamoto Musashi herself, he's a normal human being, so his sword can't overcome powerful enemies like servants.
Yet, his own servant Saber can use affinity techniques to deplete the enemies' Shell Gauge, and when that barrier is broken, then Iori himself can damage them.
You can check out how it works in the trailer below. You can also enjoy another trailer from yesterday, showing more combat.
Fate/Samurai Remnant will release on September 28, 2023, for PS5, PS4, PC, and Nintendo Switch in Japan, while Western Fate fans will have to wait just one day longer, until September 29. Pre-orders are already available on all platforms.
You can read our preview, in which our Austin Suther defined Fate/Samurai Remnant as "highly ambitious," adding that it "has thus far delivered on providing both engaging gameplay systems and an exciting story."
If you'd like to see more of the game, you can take a look at a trailer that recently introduced the story and some of the characters, another trailer and gallery of screenshots, and more images and details, on top of the opening cutscene.
If you're not familiar with the Fate series, it originally appeared in Japan in 2004 with an adult-oriented visual novel named Fate/stay night.
The franchise then followed the route similar to many other popular Japanese series which debuted as eroge, shedding its adult nature (while not completely abandoning fanservice), broadening its target, and becoming massive multimedia IP including anime, manga, and more media.
This popularity culminated semi-recently with the massively popular mobile game Fate/Grand Order.
